I am in a campaign based on the real world around the second crusades, and I'm a viking barbarian. I don't know what I should do later on with my character to improve him. There is no magic so I was thinking of a couple different possibilities:

1)Bear warrior- to show the affinity that vikings had for animals and I talked to my dm and he suggested that rather than become a bear I would go insane and think that I was a bear and get the same benefits from it

2)frenzied berserker- which would just go well with my style of go in there and kill everything

3)Take some class levels in fighter for the bonus feats

4)Just leave him as a barbarian

I'm very happy with this character, but I'm still new to the game and I want to have the most efficient character possible he is already extremely intelligent and is actually on a quest for knowledge so if anyone can help me I'd like to thank them in advance.

IIRC there's a PrC Called the Berserk in Deities and Demigods. It's flavored for a Viking Campaign. Can't remember much about it other than that, but I'd suggest taking a look into it if you can get your hands on the book. :)

I'd suggest just going into fighter levels. Vikings were talented warriors not just insane berserker killers

As well, It might seem crazy but wilderness rogue might work perfectly. The truckload of skill points and class skills would fit with their reputation as talented seaman, map makers, traders, explorers.

As well sneak attack fits well with the viking raid aspect

Well some actually were berserks ;), even if most were what we would call Fighters here. You also could look into the Ranger or Scout classes too, though.

As for Prestige classes, we have also the Reaping Mauler, if you wanna take an interest in wrestling, the Dark Hunter if you adapt it to "overearth" status, Dread Pirate could also work well as a viking, Highland Stalker if you wanna become a mountain hunter type, Streetfighter maybe also could be something worthwhile thinking of if the theme was adapted or the character grew ..."streetwise" with some contact with civilization over the years, Tempest would work well if you want to go with Two weapon style fighting, and if you want to go to Mounted combat there is also the Wild Plains Outrider... So, it depends on what aspect you wish to be.;)

May I also suggest the Runescarred Berserker from UEast? Good PrC, could work for a champion of a shamanistic northern tribe.
