| Dionon09-29-06, 04:40 PM | I was thinking one day..... There is one version of Barbarian that has not been explored yet.... Its this variant The Madder you make me... Gives up: Rage (all rages), Damage Reduction Gains: The Madder you make me, the stronger I get: Each time the Barbarian takes more damage than their constitution modifier in one attack, the Barbarian gains a +2 bonus to their strength and constitution till the end of combat. Concurrent attacks stack, but you may never gain more than +2 to strength and constitution from one attack (IE if you had an 18 constitution and took 12 damage in one attack, you would still only gain +2 strength and constitution). If you heal the damage you begin to lose the bonuses, If you become completley healed the last +2 bonus lasts for 1 round per barbarian level and then disappears. This means that if Krusk the 1st level barbarian has an 18 constitution he would have a +4 modifier and 16 hit points. If he took 4 or more damage in one attack he would gain +2 to his strength and his constitution. The next round, if he takes 5 or more damage (because Krusk's new constitution is 20 making have +1 hp and a constitution modifier of +5), he would gain an additional +2 to his strength and constitution. If Jozan heals Krusk between 5 - 8 damage the next round, Krusk's +4 to Strength and Constitution (from the two +2's) would drop to a +2 to Strength and Constitution. If Jozan healed him any more, Krusk would have one more round of his enhanced physical prowess before falling back to his normal statistics. Fast Healing: This ability directly replaces Damage Reduction. What do you guys think? |
| supernerd891609-29-06, 04:43 PM | Do you know how easy it would be to manipulate this? The whole party can take turns hitting the barb to try and raise his strength and con. He even gains hitpoints from it! Depending on his level and damage taken of course, but still. |
| Dionon09-29-06, 04:49 PM | True, but healing him makes it go away, so its not like you can just heal him back up afterward and say "Go Gettem tiger :D" He's still going to be hurting... ALOT. |
| Dionon10-10-06, 08:29 PM | bumpzilla!! |
| steel_x10-10-06, 08:34 PM | Isn't the fast healing counter-productive to the madder i get feat? |

Fast Healing: This ability directly replaces Damage Reduction. What do you guys think? Replace Fast heal with supernatural ability that mimics False Life useable 1/2 or 1/3 Barb levels (since it doesn 't give very much), caster level equal to Barb level activates as standard action Temp hps are lost first, but still activate The Madder I get. |
| Bob Loblaw10-11-06, 01:45 AM | It's been touched on at least once. Take a look at Pain Mastery from Savage Species: Pain Mastery [General] Injuries send you into a fury, increasing your physical power. Prerequisite: Con 20, Toughness. Benefit: You take damage normally, but every 50 points of damage you take (if you survive the attack) automatically increases your Strength by +2. This bonus lasts until the end of the encounter, after which you are exhausted. |
| The Meek Barbarian10-11-06, 02:33 AM | I really like the concept, but the mechanics won't work at all. Why? Angry Bob, a 12th lvl barbarian, has a Con of 10, for a modifier of 0. His party members tend to prepare for combat by flicking him on the ears for 10 minutes before combat. Each flick deals 1 point of damage. He gains +2 Str/Con (which means 12 hp from the con boost because he's got 12 hit die)So, 10 minutes = 100 rounds = 1100 extra hp [100 x (12hp-1dmg from flick)] for Angry Bob, just because his friends flicked him on the ears a lot. Oh, and don't comment on the size of Angry Bob's ears, because he'll really get angry. :headexplo I would go with something closer to what the PHB II has as a variant. If the bbns gets to below 5xbbn levels in hp, he rages until he's healed beyond that point. But i'd change it to increment it in stages. Either base it off the barbarian level, or straight % of their total hp. (every 20% drop = another +2 bonus). |

A character like angry bob would be counter productive to roleplaying.... But I'll change the varient later to turn friendly fire off lol. |
| Rejakor01-15-08, 01:52 AM | *performs thread necromancy* Have you edited the ability, or not? Because as written the 'flick the barbarian' trick doesn't work. At least not after the first 11 flicks, cause after that HP starts going down. A 'only in combat' clause could be attached to that. Or maybe it could only work 'while the barbarian is raging' and have rage only give +2str and +2con, as opposed to +4. But then he can get hit and get more enraged, etc. |
