| FriendlyBiscuit01-04-06, 02:15 PM | Gestalts seem to have been a hot topic. Has anyone used Bard as one side of the equation? I can understand why it wouldn't get used much; as a jack-of-all-trades, it doesn't have any "optimal" side to it which would fill in for an opposite sort of class. I'm sure someone has tried it, though. I'm sure it wasn't the most powerful character there, but more important to me is: Did you actually use a bard/X gestalt in a real game? (not just theorycraft) Was it fun? Were you able to decently keep up with other players' power curves? |
| CaoSlayer01-04-06, 02:59 PM | ummm, the actual most interesting bard gestalt it is the bardarian. Those two classes synergies are almost perfect, turns a bard into the perfect character: d6 -> d12(best) medium bab -> full bab(best) two good saves -> three good saves(best) Bardic music to boost mele combat -> bardic music + rage good skill list -> almost complete skill list competence with simple weapons, a few martial ones and whip -> competence with all martial. competence with light armor -> competence with medium armor --- The advantage of bardarian vs a barbarian sorcerer or a wizard barbarian it is than the bard can use light armor without ASF, use the feat battle caster and the bardarian can use a mithral full plate armor without ASF, also the bard gets bardic music that can be used while in rage and +2 to skill points and a very wide skill list, also the bard grant good reflex saves. It is imposible to get a better gish combo out of gestalt rules. |
| FriendlyBiscuit01-05-06, 02:32 PM | O.O  That is really, really, really cool. I just may have to give it a try. I never would have thought that bardic music could be used in a rage, but I guess they're both considered "chaotic" according to the game. What race with more than two arms has the lowest level adjustment? I'm seeing a bardarian wielding a greataxe and war drums in my mind here... |
| CaoSlayer01-06-06, 05:29 AM | The only worth race with four arms are the thri-threens from savage species and expanded psionics books there is a non psionic version with 2 racial hd and +1 LA. Still if you try a bard thri-threen I will personally smack you... For a good concept option, get perform (Oratory) and play it as a skald (Norse viking bard who caused fear with this music, there is the warrior skald prc on Races of Faerun). Imagine a guy beating enemies with an axe while sings opera. |
| FriendlyBiscuit01-06-06, 05:45 AM | Still if you try a bard thri-threen I will personally smack you... Now I HAVE to do it! Of course, that's assuming Crankypants the DM doesn't have something against Thri-Theens. Also assuming I can find someone who owns that book. Arrrgh, so very many books! Too many! Someone get me my war drums and my axe; I need to go "release some steam" on some fool's head! *cracks four knuckles* |
