So, what kinds of items are good for a Brd2/Rog1? He currently has an AC of 17 and 19 HP. I'd like to get him some magic items and such, but I don't know what would be most useful.

Thanks,

without a doubt the official bardic armor set:
Mithril chain shirt + mithril big shield

both gives to the bard +6 AC without a single skill penalty, allows a max dex bonus of about +8 or +6 and when using the shield, he just have an ASF of 5% (roll an 1 in a d20 chances).

Also a good investment can be a wand of cure light wounds, with this item you can just forget about having to learn cure light wounds.

beyond those, items that makes your AC better are always a good purchase.

He can use freely any wand that contains a spell in this spell list, in addition with an UMD DC 20 check can try to activate any wand; at level 3 unless optimated, is not easy to do the dc 20 check, but about level 10, any bard can activate any wand or staff without much troubles.

A regular level 3 bard would have a check of +9 (6 ranks, +3 charisma mod).
an optimized bard can get +5 from two feats (magic aptitude and skill focus) also if your master allow it, the cost of a +5 to UMD checks it is about 2500gp (the same than other +5 to a check magical items), so a level 3 UMD optimized bard can perfectly activate any wand with a 95% chance.

ummm, the wand of cure light wounds it is usually more useful than a cure serious wand because it is way cheaper, with the cost of a cure serious wand : 4500gp you can perfectly buy six cure light wounds wands, it is a total healing potential of 1d8+1*6*50 vs a pontential of 2d8+3*50, that it is a total of 300d8+300 hp vs 100d8+150.
The key of healing wands are to be use between battles rather than using them in a fight since usually enemies deal more damage than the one that can heal a wand in a round and so it is a better used round if you buff, cast a spell or swing your weapon.
Ever if there is a cleric in the party, the wand it is used for saving this slots for useful spells.

from SRD (online rulebook)

Activation

Wands use the spell trigger activation method, so casting a spell from a wand is usually a standard action that doesn’t provoke attacks of opportunity.

Spell Trigger

Spell trigger activation is similar to spell completion, but it’s even simpler. No gestures or spell finishing is needed, just a special knowledge of spellcasting that an appropriate character would know, and a single word that must be spoken. Anyone with a spell on his or her spell list knows how to use a spell trigger item that stores that spell. (This is the case even for a character who can’t actually cast spells, such as a 3rd-level paladin.) The user must still determine what spell is stored in the item before she can activate it. Activating a spell trigger item is a standard action and does not provoke attacks of opportunity.
