Hmm, well you're certainly being vague. Since a bard is by nature a terrific jack-of-all-trades, you really have to choose an aspect of the bard to enhance with a prestige class. Well, here are my top picks anyway.

Seeker of the Song - Located in Complete Arcane, this PrC focuses on the bard's songs, granting extra uses of bardic song, while adding a new special 'seeker song' every level. Also, the class grants some great extra abilities such as providing AC and damage reduction while singing, and the ability to combine two songs at once. Downsides? No spell progression, need at least 10 levels to jump into class, medium BAB, only one good save: will, d6 hit die.

Sublime Chord - Also in Complete Arcane (right after seeker of the song). This one focuses on the bard's casting ability, actually beginning with granting level 4 sorceror/wizard spells eventually leading up to level 9 spells (whoo!). The PrC also adds a few extra usefull bard songs and some extra bardic song uses. Downside? Level 10 also required (13 ranks needed in knowledge arcana), low BAB, and again, only good save is Will.

Warchanter - In Complete Warrior. This one, as its name would imply, focuses on the bard's combat ability - both in his own, and in his using bardic songs to help his allies. This one grants a good base attack bonus, the ability to combine songs, a d8 for health, more party helpful bard songs, and extra bard song usages each level. This one also has no spell progression, and again only one save, this time fortitude. The requirements seem to be easier for this one tho - a +4 BAB, a choice in perform skills having 6 ranks, inspire courage, and combat expertise and weapon focus.

Virtuoso also springs to mind, but I don't have complete Adventurer in hand at the moment.

These are the ones I can most easily call to mind, happy hunting.

i am planning on focusing on the bardic music aspect of the bard. seeker of the song sounds like it might be what i want. are there any other bard PrCs that give access to new types of music?

Not that vague really...

Personally I'm not too keen on ANY Bard PrCs. I'm about to play a Bard and done a lot of research. I think you can do a lot more interesting stuf with multiclassing a Bard than with a PrC... but that's just for how I want to play my Bard.

Most Bard PrCs can't be taken until quite late (at least compared to other PrCs) and have rather weak special abilities at low levels within the PrC, which means you better be playing a long term or high level campaign.

That said... Sublime Chord provides a great spellcasting boost, but it's only available at level 11 and it'll cost you around 30 ranks in skills you might not otherwise use.

Even looking around at D20 products the Bard PrCs are quite thin.

But that's just my opinion of course, and how I want to play my Bard, definately check out those suggestions above, but also loo at other 'non Bard' PrCs. The Bard is a generalist and can often fit other (intended class) PrCs like the Spellsword. Particulry if you do multiclass.
