| mkred2310-21-03, 12:04 PM | Need some help with a Bard / Rogue. we are level 7 a few xp from 8th. I wanted to try the new bard which looks much better than the 3.0... But our party did not have a rogue so I had/have to take at least one rank in rogue to get the skill useage of traps and seach. Because of this I am also in the lead most of the time.. So I need some combat ability. The restrictions are the core books... PHB, DMG, MM, and the supppliments..ie song and silence. defeneders ect from 3.0... I got a really good list of eq that boosted my ac to 25. But feats and other build Ideas would be GREATLY appreciated. Mike |
| Baalzamon10-21-03, 12:27 PM | forget the fighter levels. the few that you could fit in wont help you that much, and will hurt your skills too much. Sorry, but if you had your heart set on being a combatant you should think again. going heavy on bard with a few rogue levels can work just fine. If you are worried about getting hurt when your up front just try to focus on stealth and agility. If they cant see you they cant hurt you. use the spells you get, such as invisibility and silence to make extra sure you dont get spotted and killed. also make sure you have tumble. it can get you out of a lot of tough situations just in time to cast expeditious retreat and run like hell. illusions can also work wonders to cause distractions and draw fire away from you. why should they be killing you when you can have a perfect illusionary double up ahead of you for the enemy to shoot at? Just remember that you arent a fighter and focus on your skills, song and spells. dont fight other than to get free shots on enemies that are busy attacking the other party members. In combat you are support at most. |
| mkred2310-21-03, 12:33 PM | didnt think about illusions like silent immage up front.. or silence spell since that would negate my bardic abilities... I did think 2 levels of rogue to get evasion was a good Idea.. What do you think of Dragon Desiple or Arcane archerer as combat support.? |
| Orcish Fury10-21-03, 01:58 PM | Mmm, Dragon Disciple...D12 hd, claw attacks, breath weapons, winged flight...yeah that'll work for combat support. |

I've used it plenty. As a matter of fact I just did a 1 - 2 Combo recently our scouts came upon some trolls. Ghost Sound of and explosion (a 'la Fireball) and Silent Image of a large ring of Firey Death. The paniced trolls ran right into our trap. Once there Bardic Music to give the party +1 on Hit/Damage/ and saves. IT was HOT! |

| Sir Ferdinand10-22-03, 06:36 AM | Why would silent image negate any bardic abilities? He said Silence. With Silence Bard will lose spellcasting, because Bard spells require sound to work. |

Most Bardic Abilities can be used and Then cast Silence, the effects will continue for a while after the bard stops singing (or whatever) MOST spellcasters will be SOL in silence anyway, How many times has a Cleric or Wizard thought "Hey, the BBEG might hit us with a Silence so I will use up all my 8th and 9th level spells to make my 1st and 2nd level spells METAed so I can cast them in silence." ? Yeah sure the Sorc will be ok, but most other spellcasters won't. |
| Sildatorak10-24-03, 03:54 PM | Well, since silent spell only boosts the level by 1 it isn't a bad idea for a high level wizard to carry around a silent dispel magic in one of her level 4 slots. Silence is not the best option for your bard. The feats stealthy and skill focus: move silently are probably your best bet. Silent image has the nuisance of only lasting as long as you concentrate. Invisibility is a much better choice here. Once your enemies are in sight, toss an invisibility on yourself and beat a hasty retreat back to warn the party. |
