I'm fairly new to playing D&D and I wanted to know a good track to go on when I play a bard.

I think we'll have these classes for our group:
Rogue
Monk
Cleric
Some Fighter-type
and me

Would a Bard be a good choice for this group setup? I want to play a bard that complements this group well so any suggestions you guys have would be great. Last time I tried playing a bard, the other players laughed at me for being crappy and from then on, they've always said Bards suck. I want to prove them wrong. =)

This link (http://forums.gleemax.com/archive/index.php/t-850239.html) and this link (http://forums.gleemax.com/archive/index.php/t-838437.html) will help you tremendously.

My build suggestion would be to go Bard/Lyric Thaumaturge/Sublime Chord due to your party's lack of a full arcanist, but there are plenty of other good options.

This isn't what you were asking for, but the bard isn't quite the best 5th for that party. You'd be better off with a Wizard, Sorc or some other full spell-casting arcanist.

BUT, if you DO want to go bard, start off bard then hit the Sublime Cord (comp Arcane) PRC. Gives you 9th level Sorc/Wiz spells (albeit only 2/day at 20th) but you also get some nifty bardic music abilities, especially if you can push your perform check through the roof.

You can also use another PRC (Lyric Thaumaturge, Comp Mage) to get to Sublime Cord

A decent build might be:

Bard 6/Lyric Thaumaturge 4/Sublime Cord 10

You certainly become a better spellcaster than the typical bard.

Just an idea and good luck!
