| Aethermix05-03-07, 12:30 PM | I'm looking into creating a bard that will be played in a campaign that will be chock full of the Undead. My idea is a darkly dressed figure who plays the violin and specializes in any knowledge concerning undead. Specifically I'm looking for something that allows undead to be affected by mind influencing effects, any feats, items, spells etc. would be appreciated. I've had an idea for a feat and it goes something like this... The Lost Song: [General] You have discovered an ancient song that was thought to be lost in time. Prerequisite: Bardic Music, Cha 13 Benefit: At any time that you use Bardic Music you may now expend an additional usage of Bardic Music to have your Music affect those with an immunity to mind-influencing effects. Any such creature that hears this song must make a Will save (10 + 1/2 your character level + Cha. modifier, save negates) If successful your bardic music may now affect those creatures normally as if they had no immunity to mind-influencing effects. The creatures still get a save if appropriate for the song that The Lost Song has been applied to. This only applies to your music and only for 24 hours. other than that so far I have... Feat: Undead Empathy: (p. 61 ECS) Not much but a start. Obvious I want to focus on Diplomacy... why you ask? I plan on having a wand of awaken undead so all of a sudden any undead within a 25ft.+ radius have an intelligence score (and with the proper diplomacy checks) can become friendly. Now I know clerics can do turning and all of that but we already have 2.. I wanted something with flavor anyway.. |

Also, the Dirgesinger PrC is a good undead themed bard PrC (I'm not sure if it's based more on controlling undead or assisting them though). Don't have my books with me right now, so I can't be sure. Will have them in a few hours if someone doesn't beat me to it. |
| primemover00305-03-07, 01:00 PM | The feat's called Requiem in Libris Mortis... You might also want to check out the variant bard called the Harbinger from Dragon #337 as it basically reverses the Bards normal abilities and affects his opponents. I have a player doing the same thing right now (5th level Spellscale Harbinger) and looking at becoming a dirgesinger. His debuffs have been pretty effective in neutralizing minions and his spells have taken my big nasty monsters out of a battle. |
| Tamujin05-04-07, 03:14 PM | in "Song and Silence" is the feat "requiem" (prereq. bardic music, 12+ preform) which makes bardic music affect undead, but only for half the normal duration about your "The lost song", maybe you should add "creatures who passed the save succesfully can't be affected within the next X hours" X being any time you think is balanced |

| mad_warlock05-05-07, 03:02 PM | What is a Dirgesinger? what do they do? |
| Edymnion05-05-07, 03:51 PM | What is a Dirgesinger? what do they do?They already covered that. Its a Bard PrC centering around bolstering/controlling undead. It also has some bardic music abilities that make your opponents fearful. |
| CaoSlayer05-05-07, 04:31 PM | Also there is many bardic spells that works in undead, illusions work great against mindless undead because they just cant notice that something is an illusion and cant disbelieve. Also spells like grease, glitterdust and slow are good against them. And of course, focusing in buffering your friends makes you 100% efective, take a look into seeker of the song for sonic damage songs or sublime chord for sorcerer spells both found at complete arcane. |
| Zardnaar05-05-07, 07:39 PM | Vs undead our normal bard used to just buff everyone else via bardic music or a haste spell. |
| primemover00305-05-07, 11:28 PM | The most current version of Requiem is in Libris Mortis as is the Dirgesinger... FYI. Song & Silence is 3.0. |
