| Ereanor05-13-07, 09:20 PM | I'm currently Bard 11. At level 13 I will go into Seeker of the Song. Looking back I think I would have planned better and gone into it at level 11 but I didn't get the book until this week and I won't meet the prereq's till I get till 12th level. Basically just wondering how this build looks so far. this is my first bard and I love playing him. He is basically a support character who uses knowledge and diplomacy outside of battle and mostly music to boost the group during combat. When given the time will use enchantment spells against our enemies. I considered picking up the Weapon Finesse feat because I have a pretty kick ass rapier but in 11 levels I haven't used a weapon yet. Some of the choices I made in regards to feats and spells were strickly for role playing purposes. Thanks. Stats: Str 10 Dex 14 Con 14 Int 16 Wis 10 Cha 18 Feats: Human bonus: Improved Initiative 1. Spell focus: Enchantment 3. Versitile Performer 6. Leadership 9. Captivating Melody At 12 will chose Skill Focus: Perform At 15 will chose Extra Music At 18 will chose either Extra Music (I should know by then if this is needed), Lingering Song or Greater Spell Focus: Enchantment. I guess I'll gauge which one will be most beneficial when I get to this point which will be awhile. Spells: 0:Detect Magic, Mending, Message, Predigitation, Read Magic, Resistance 1. Cure Light Wounds, Grease, Inspirational Boost, Tasha's Hideous Laughter 2. Alter Self, Hold Person, Glitterdust, Minor Image 3. Glibness, Confusion, Slow, Sculpt Sound. 4. Secure Shelter, Hold Monster, Sirine's Grace (I hope I spelled this right as I borrowed the book and no longer have it) |

It seems like you're definitely going for a more magic-focused, support character, but SotS doesn't progress your magic, and the abilities you get are more 'offensive-blasty' than support. I'd recommend looking into the Lyric Thaumaturge (Complete Mage), Sublime Chord (Complete Arcane), or Virtuoso (Complete Adventurer). None of them should be difficult to enter for an 11th-level Bard, and might fit your concept better. Or, conversely, you might want to just stick with the Bard class to get the higher-level bardic music abilities. Secondly, you might want to rethink some of those feats. 'Extra Music' is an excellent feat...for low-level Bards (one which should be retrained into something else at about 5th level or so). Skill Focus: Perform is kinda overkill; due to maxed out skill ranks, your modifier should be plenty high enough for whatever it is you're trying to accomplish. Not sure what feats to recommend in place of these, cuz there are alot of decent ones out there. |

A seeker of the song gains so many uses of bardic music that you will never spend them in a day, so get feats that gives you new songs or allows you to burn bardic music uses. Ironchant skin is a very god one by example. |
| Ereanor05-14-07, 03:48 PM | I agree with the feat Skill Foicus being overkill but I have no choice as it is the prereq for SotS. I thought with the Seeker I may be burning through my music allotment but I see the both of you nix that feat at this point so i will as well. I understand that Sublime Chord and the other "caster "bard Prc are better choices but the Seeker really fits to how my character is role-played. Also my group is very spell oriented. We have alot of casters...so much so that are DM has started incorporating a lot of creatures with spell resistance. I thought the seeker would nullify this as well. Though your last suggestion of sticking with bard is also a option and one I'm strongly debating...Seeker..Bard? Thanks for the advice thus far it has been great. I will check out the Ironchant feat to possibly replace the Extra Music. Thanks Again. the advice on these boards are always priceless. |

But you know your character better than I, so do what you think is more in-line with your character's fighting style. |
