Sorry. I totally lied. I don't have any cookies for you.

This question is so basic, it'll probably get me drummed right out of the forums. I'm not even sure if this is the right section for it. I apologize in advance.

I've never played a bard before, but I finally bit the bullet and have worked one up to 9th level. (My DM is going to be so MAD when he sees I've taken the requiem feat. Tee hee).

So here's my question: Inspire Greatness, the bardic music ability, gives my target an additional 2 hit dice along with a slew of other beneficial thingies. What exactly does it mean to recieve an additional hit die? What does it affect?

Thanks in advance for your responses, you smarty-head heads!

What exactly does it mean to recieve an additional hit die? What does it affect? Aside from the spelled-out benefits (extra hp, extra attack bonus, etc.), the extra HD come into play whenever an effect that is determined by the number of HD of its target/recipient comes up. The PHB gives the example of the Sleep spell: that affects a number of targets up to a total of 4 HD, those with the lowest number of HD affected first. The extra HD from IG would count towards those. Blasphemy is another spell of which the effect would possibly be changed by those HD, as is Trap the Soul and a bunch of others.
