Bardic Inspire Courage and Domination/Charm [Archive] - Wizards Community

12-08-03, 11:11 PM When the bard Inspires Courage, his allies get bonuses.

If the bard is charmed by an opposing caster when he does this, does the opposing caster qualify as an "ally"?

If the bard is Dominated by an opposing caster, does the opposing caster qualify as an ally?

If the bard is Dominated by the foe, and the foe has commanded him to assist in the assault against his former friends (and yes, the "against your nature" bonus save is failed), are his former friends still "allies"? Are his controller's minions "allies"?

12-11-03, 11:07 AM I would have to agree . . . the Bard would choose who is allies are. Then it becomes the player's choice and proper roleplaying, if he has been charmed.

12-11-03, 07:53 PM With Charm I would think the bard would give all his "friends" the benifits, but dominate would mean the bard would no longer consider his compainions "friends" if the person dominating him dosn't want him to.

12-12-03, 03:42 AM I would say that when the Bard is Charmed, he'd give the bonus to the caster who Charmed the Bard, and also to his normal friends.

When the Bard is Dominated (I don't know the rules too well in this case), I'd say the caster determines who are Bard's friends, as the caster is the one who basically controls the Bard.

12-12-03, 09:42 AM Okay, good. That's basically what I figured as well, although I couldn't find any kind of rules that related.

The Bard was dominated by a vampire, and began Inspiring Courage. According to the vampire, the party's druid was not an ally, although the other party members had not been specifically excluded. Of course, the vampire couldn't benefit (mind-affect), but at least her primary target didn't either!
