Salve!

I am currently updating my game from 3.0 to 3.5, so I started reading the core rulebooks from the start... (something one should do from time to time...)

And reading the bard there arouse a question I would appreciate your opinions on:

The bardic music Inspire Courage gives +1 to attack and damage. There is no restriction as with the damage bonus gained by strength-score. Why? Does your arrow inflict more damage when the archer is couraged? I would rather apply the +1 damage-bonus only to melee and thrown weapons including slings, as with the strength-bonus.

How do you handle this?

If there is a Bard singing then it is going to be uber, period!

You want to know why even arrows get the +1? It is because the Bardic Music is so great, that even the arrows themselves are inspired to fly faster and hit harder!

There, problem solved.

Bardic courage is a special type of courage, I refer to it as 'Inspired Focus'.

He can aim at spots where it hurts more, and he draws it back a little more, increasing power, but inevitably damaging a (non-magic) bow. Any archer worth his salt carries extra bowstrings for such an eventuality. this, however is glossed over as irrelevant.

Then again, i've always been a fan of people paying for power boosts after their over, not to extent of acutal penalties, but its a nice touch.

I'd wager it's meant to show increased accuracy rather than increased Strength.

I'm going to bank on the fact that if someone thinks they are likely to win a fight, they'll take more chances in said fight. That being said, this archer could easily think to himself, "Hmm...I'll just nock this arrow back a little farther than usual, even though the bowstring might break." or maybe, "I'll step forward into this one. He can't reach me anyway."
Courage is a powerful thing. Even if magical.
