| dnddreamer05-30-05, 01:20 AM | How long can a bard/dirgesinger play his instrument or sing a song before he has to quit due to be tired or dry mouthed? Any ideas...this came up because of the Dirgesong ability in Librus Mortus called Song of Awakening. It says that as long as the dirgesinger continues his dirgesong (vocals or instrumentals) he has control/command over the undead that he has awaken. So how long do people think? |
| CzarGarrett05-31-05, 09:12 AM | I don't think there's a specific length given. However, to house rule something in that a Conc check that increases, starting after a base time, is reasonable. Like a Conc check at DC 10 starting on Round 10, and add +1 DC/2 rounds additional. |
| Kyuketsukiouji05-31-05, 10:13 AM | 10 rounds? That's a minute. Who here can't sing for a whole minute? How about someone who's trained all their lives in that particular skill? Way too short. |
| CzarGarrett05-31-05, 01:15 PM | Its called an example. It need not be exact. |
| Seeker50505-31-05, 02:01 PM | Having played a musical Instrument in a concert at the Highschool level for an hour and fifteen minutes, I can safely say that uninterrupted, playing a musical instrument (when you're trained to do it) isn't that hard. Here's the challenge: most musical pieces don't last more than 10 minutes by themselves, so you would have to repeat the same song over and over, or just "improv" (morph) the song into something else. We can assume that "rests" (places where you stop to take a breath) don't count as ending a particular song, since music isn't just about continual sound. Anyway, playing music or singing in Combat is a bit different. I'd say, you have to make a perform check (DC 5 +damage dealt) if you are attacked and damaged while "dirging", and a constitution check every 4 minutes (fourty rounds) or after 3 minutes and increasing (like mentioned by CzarGarrett) if you are moving a lot or doing other rigorous activities. This comes from the experience I've had in marching band, where you play 3-6 minute songs while creating formations that look good, and thus marching quickly across a football field. Without a break of about 30 seconds in between, everyone but percussionists would be winded, and the percussionists arms would fall off (not literally). Anyway, just my opinion; hope it helps. |
