I'm looking to learn the Druidic language without having to take a level in Druid, and someone mentioned Bardic Tutelage (going for a fochlucan lyrist build). It says you can learn ANY language. It's from Champions of Valor, but I don't have the book. This is a regional backgroud, but what is required to apply a regional background? Will this even allow me to learn Druidic?

It was showcased here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/iw/20051104a). About the middle of the page.

You can probably pull this off in character, too. Spend the skill points, and, as a bard, cast Charm Person, or use a domination effect.

Alternately, creative use of Modify Memory (someone assigning you as a druidic protege to an existing druid) and disguise spells and Glibness can do the same thing.

There is only one other way to learn Druidic without multiclassing -- Loremasters are not limited to nonsecret languages.

Why would Bardic Tutelage restrict languages if Loremaster does not?

Loremaster
Bonus Languages
A loremaster can choose any new language at 4th and 8th level.

Bardic Tutelage
Bonus Languages
As region, plus any one (including dead languages).

That almost sounds LESS restrictive than Loremaster to me. They both just use the term any.

Notice I used the term "other."

I don't own Heroes of Battle, so I'm doing the best I can.

I see... :D

I've looked through the FochLyr build thread, but it's emphasis is on maxing spell casting. I've been looking for ways to max the classes potential in several areas at once. The best I've come up with so far uses a very standard build to get into FL, Druid 8/Bard 2/Rogue 2/FL 8. This actually makes quite a potent secondary fighter in Brown Bear form. With the Words of Creation feat and Inspirational Boost, you get +5 hit/damage song with an Attack bonus around 40, 20th CL Druid with Practised Spellcaster, and I also throw in Fast Wildshape and Natural Spell. I take Rogue at 12th to finish off skill pre-reqs, then the rest FL. You can Fight, Heal, Pick and Buff, just not awesome at any of them.

I was also looking at it for the ultimate support build, using Bard 4/Rogue 2/Archivist 4/FL 10. With Inspire Courage, Archivist's Dark knowledge(tactics), Prayer and Haste, you have +10 hit (or more!)/+8 damage. This is just in the first 2 rounds (with 1 Quickened Prayer). The problem with this build was needing to learn Druidic.
