Ecthelion 01-29-04, 05:40 AM	How can a bard incorporate spellcasting in his performances? I'd say that spells like ghost sound, prestidigitation and the like should be castable while telling an epic or acting or anything. But it isn't. I believe I saw a feat in song and silence dealing with something similar, but I think it's wrong to have to take a feat to able to put up a good show. What do you think? Would it be unbalancing to fix this (cause I'm not sure)?
JimJohn 01-29-04, 05:52 AM	Prestidigitation is usable during a performance. You cast it, and then are allowed to use it over the course of it's long duration. Spells with no components other then Verbal can be used, since your instrument is your verbal component (I think). The feat you're referring to is Disguise Spell, by the way. Another way would be racial abilities (IE: Gnome's 1/day illusions) or sleight of hand tricks in liu of actual casting, maybe. Yet another way would be to have a spellcasting buddy.
JimJohn 01-29-04, 05:55 AM	Actually, prestigidation may be the best answer for you. That spell lasts an hour, can be cast in the alley outside the tavern while you're "relieving yourself", and can do an infinite amount of simple impress-the-rabble tricks.
JimJohn 01-29-04, 05:57 AM	This sure is a fragmented response. It would be unbalancing to allow casting freely during a performance (as disguise spell does, that is). It would let you conceal any spell from notice in a previously-casual, social environment and you could just go on strumming innocently while charming guards, casting fireballs and summoning monsters.
