Post diferent built that involve bard class level.

I like taking the Arcane Archer PrC with my bard. The usual build is something like fighter(6)/sorcerer(1)... something along these lines anyway. Taking bard levels instead of this multiclass yeilds many more skill points and larger list of class skills, more versatile abilities like bardic music and bardic knowledge, and lastly and possible most importantly a larger number of spells, not to mention a few heal spells which is great for martial characters to have even if they are archer builds. Yeah I lose some bard abilities but I gain some great ones in place of them from the PrC, and I'm only stunted 1 level (having to be a level 8 bard to meet the requirements as opposed to a level 7 fighter/sorcerer to meet them).

I'm fond of the Exalted CG Bard who takes of the VoP and Words of Creation!!

then he can easily double the effects of his bardic music, now to pick bardic music friendly prestige classes and BOOM. even with out them the courage effect alone adds a +8 to hit and damage to your friends... can you say sweet? i think the fighter would have mad secks with you after that.

LOL and 5 minutes later you are good as new, meaning you don't have that pesky one hour cool down that is normally associated with the words of creation feat.

:D

HELL, if your cleric buddy can get some kind of regen effect on you to get rid of that non leathal damage instaed of VoP, then you are rocking cause the item could probably get rid of that damage while IN combat, thus making you sing pretty much forever lol.

Bards benefit a lot from a copy of Dragon 311. The green whisperer and world speaker are from there.

They all benefit from the Sublime Chord: the following builds use the sublime chord. I'll try to get to some that don't later.

Jack of all trades, master of none (even more so than the usual bard):

bard 4/druid 1/green whisperer 3/master thrower 2/sublime chord 2/fochlucan lyrist 8

Requires +2 skill points per level (as in, human with 12+ int, or gnome with 14+ int, or whatever).

The Aundairan knightly bard

bard 7/paladin 2/knight phantom 1/sublime chord 1/knight phantom 9

Start taking paladin levels around level 3 or so, so that you don't have to spend paladin skill points trying to meet sublime chord prerequisites. Take the Devoted Performer feat from Complete Adventurer to make them synergize better and to make the alignment problems be not so bad.

The Dark Jester

rogue 4/bard 1/assassin 5/sublime chord 2/arcane trickster 8

The Anti-War Folk Singer-Songwriter

bard 4/druid 1/world speaker 3/apostle of peace 2/sublime chord 2/fochlucan lyrist 8

Note: this build requires the use of Magic of Incarnum's feats, "Shape Soulmeld (impulse boots)" and "Open Least Chakra (feat)" to get evasion. Without these, one might use the simpler "Sacred Chord" build: bard 8/apostle of peace 2/sublime chord 2/mystic theurge 8

As for builds without sublime chord (which is, IMHO, slightly overpowered).

Exalted bard:

bard 20 or bard 10/troubadour of the stars 10

Either way, the idea is to use Words of Creation. Taking the spell Inspirational Boost, the feat Song of the Heart, and the feat Words of Creation allow the bard, for a pittance of nonlethal damage and a level 1 swift spell, to inspire courage at very high levels. For instance, a level 8 bard using this combination will inspire courage at a +6 bonus. A level 20 bard will inspire courage at +10. This combination, however, is available to other bard builds as well, if they can spare the feats and don't mind being exalted good. In fact, the anti-war folk singer-songwriter practically gets Words of Creation for free, since Vow of Poverty, an Apostle of Peace prerequisite, gives so many bonus exalted feats. However, the build also practically requires the Versatile Performer feat, to allow the use of singing/oratory instead of string instruments (forbidden by Vow of Poverty), since so many ranks of perform (strings) are required for Fochlucan Lyrist, and Summon Instrument has only so many uses per day.

Sublime Chord 2 gives you Song of Arcane Power (boosts CL) as well as serves as a good breakpoint. Not to mention +1 BAB

You take 2 levels of Sublime Chord in the build I suggested, because song of arcane power rocks. And you only need 8 levels of Mystic Theurge after that to get to 9th level spells in both the Ur-Priest and Sublime Chord.

Does no one else have a DM who limits you to one prestige class until you max it out? I mean, how prestigious is the Sublime Chord really if every bard in the world has a couple of levels of it?

As for builds that actually use this principle, I like the fighter 2/ bard 8/ dawncaller (RoS) 10. It's great for a bard that has focused more on music and combat than spellcasting.

Also of interest may be the bard 5/ worldspeaker 5/ seeker of the song 10. Great utility person for the party, even though the seeker class kind of gets screwed on the skill points and list.

I dont specifically do this, but it sort of happens in a roundabout way. I allow my players to have up to two baseclasses and one PrC.

Though, the term "Prestige Class" is kind of a false statement, considering a large majority of them actually kind of suck. Those that let your character do something that he wouldnt normally be able to do, are frontloaded, so only the first couple of levels are really "good", while the rest are filler junk.

My bard is very different, it boast allies, have a good diplomacy, alsoa good sugestion and fascinate.

Human bard 7, marshall 1

STR- 10
DEX- 14
CON- 16
INT- 18
WIS- 14
CHA- 24

H- Song of the heart (basics to albard abilities)
Bard 1- Skill focus perform - oratory (my basic perform test because I can fascinate without others notice that i'm doing so)
Bard 3- Versitle performer (to increase my fascinate)
Bard 6- Word of Creation (amazing for bards)
Marshall 1- Skill focus diplomacy
- Minor aura to Cha checks and skill

Perform 28
Diplomacy 30
Bluff 25
UMD 16 + 1/2 bard level

I am using the alternated bardic knowledge of the PHII to boast skill to a very low coast.

My plain is to

Bard 8 (inpire corage +2, and +4 in all skill)
Marshall 3 ( two minor aura, to CHA checks and INT checks
Exemplar 4 (not sure about how long but... +4 to search, +4 to disible device, take 10 in 9 skills - perform, diplomacy, seach, disible ,+CHA to fortitude and concentration, bonus feat is always good.
Rogue 2 (find trap and rogue's skill)

And buy feats to boast inspire corage, leadership, or (if any) something to increase the marshall's aura
The Idea is to find and disible beast than a pure rogue at the same level.

I gess is it, if some is missing I edit it.

What do you think about this built? Please comment

I personally think that a Gnomish Bard/Divine Prankster rocks the house.

Fascinate, then two more rounds of calm joke telling with no one the wiser, and then save vs death, with a good save. Works for me, and makes you take perform comedy as well, which is tons of fun in game!

In my group, my bard serves as a backup healer and the trapfinder.

Bard 11/ Rogue 2. Yeah ok, it's not a splat build. But at least he has a decent Search score and can find traps when needed.

I think my building can beat a rogue trap finder at the same level.

My intention is exactly to function as a bard (to boast allies) and a rogue trap finder.

Bard20 is doable. The sublime chord's appeal is access to 5-9th Arcane spells. You are never as good as a wizard or sorceror, but you will have your bard (10th) abilities plus 9th level spells...which can be very nice for the 'niche' bard who wants a little more spell oomph. Stack sublime chord with another '+ spell casting ability' prestige class and you are really rolling in cream.

If you won't be good as a wizard (there one hatran in my group) I "thought" (is this written corectly) it will be better, and funiest, to do some rogue stuffs (better than a rogue can)

Fighter1/bard X. Put your three highest numbers in Str, CHA, CON in that order. Take mounted combat. Put points in perform (oratory). For your spells known, take either swift spells without somatic components, or long-duration buff spells.

With full plate and a mithril shield, your AC will be high enough that melee is survivable. A horse gives you freedom to move about the battlefield. (you could use expeditious retreat instead, if you prefer) with hgih STR, martial weapons, and inspire courage, you'll fight nearly as well as a fighter or barbarian would at low levels. At high levels, you become a versatile caster as well.

You don't need high INT because of the skill poitns oyu save by not buying hide and move silently. Though yolu are an unexceptional warrior, you have numerous ways to pump your team, plus social skills and knowledge.

plus, this perfect bard is ALSO a perfect Knight.
