Working on a 10th level Bard build and I know in the next adventure that we will be underwater. What I'm trying to figure out is how being in an underwater enviroment will affect the Bard Music? If I can't sing properly then my character will be mostly useless for that portion of the adventure, so I'm just trying to get the rules strait on how the music will get affected.

Likewise, is there a magic item that will solve the problem and make it so that the party will be able to hear my do oratory clearly.

Put a bottle of air on the lip of a flute. That will play it continually, then you just keep your finger over the holes, and release the air out of certain holes, which produce different sounds because of how they shove the water out of the way. There, a water based instrument.

On page 48 of Stormwrack it describes how bards without a means of breathing underwater, magically or otherwise, aren't able to perform songs, oratory, or wind instruments underwater. It notes that percussion instruments work well, especially bells, and that stringed instruments that use metal strings rather than gut strings also work.

In the Magic Items section of the book, it lists the Deep armor quality, which for 22,500 gp gives your armor a few bonuses, one of which being the ability to breathe underwater.

Thanks for the references! Now of course the wrinkle in all of this is the fact that I'm using a warforged. I'm going over the the warforged traits and it says that they don't need to breath, so logically the presumption is that they can breath if they want.

That is kind of in a grey zone but I'd guess that would mean that oratory would be fine underwater for a warforged.

Questionable at best. Just get bells, those would work under water. Drums, not so much, since if water leaks in, or loosens the top its worthless.
