| Jell_Moo11-19-04, 10:27 AM | There is an identical thread less than half the page down. There is no need to create multiple threads on the same subject. If you don not like Bards and wish to discuss that with others, do so there. This is the thread I am talking about. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=339588) |
| Thorak11-19-04, 10:27 AM | ok so here is my argument. bards suck. they are underpowered, i dont have naything against their music, but what if they get laryngitis, or their instrument breaks? they cant do anything! What if a Fighter loses his arms, or his weapon breaks? Same difference. as far as i am concerned bards are only good for NPCs and for bugging you. if anyone contradicts im willing to listen(or read). ezze8 :P 8 Bards are, effectively, a half-power Arcane class, a half-power (social) Rogue class, a half-power Healer class, and with Bardic Music thrown in on top of it. Three half-classes, and their own abilities? Doesn't sound underpowered to me. The only "problem" bards have is that they take intelligence and tactical thought to use well. So if you're looking for a no-brainer thump-or-blast-the-baddies kind of character, a bard won't fill that role. But they're better at social encounters than any other class, and have enough power to fill in for many different roles in a party to boot. |
| Mirikon11-19-04, 10:43 AM | Bards often get thumped by people calling them weak, just because they don't have the OMG 733t uber teh hawt spells of DOOOOOOOM! or the fighter's 'reduce a goblin warband to a pile of bodies in three rounds' melee prowess. When used well, they provide a good backup arcane caster, a good backup fighter, and a good support character, as well as providing a bit of extra healing, which is /always/ good. Plus, bardic music and bardic lore can be quite useful. Bards aren't weak if used properly. But then, any class, used improperly, is weak. |
