I don't know if this is the right place for this post.

My question is with a mulitclass character and the BAB and saves.

A 5th level fighter has BAB +5 and base saves of +4,+1,+1 respectively
He wants to add some Cleric levels.
The 1st level Cleric's BAB is +0, and base saves of +2,+0,+2 respectively.

Do I add these figures so that the BAB is +5, and saves are +6,+1,+3
or do I use the better figures making it BAB +5 and saves +4,+1,+2 or
do I base the numbers on the class being played?

In other words since he is playing a Cleric using the Cleric numbers and
ignoring the fighter numbers until he resumes the fighter level progression.

Thanks in advance.

You add them up. BAB +5 Saves +6, +1, +3

I know this is unecessary information, but:
Taking 1st level in multiple classes can quickly inflate your saves because of this effect. Of course in the case of non-warrior classes it has the downside of stretching your abilities thin and of slowing down your BAB progression. On the flip side, if you try this with the Warrior classes, for instance:
Barbarian1/Fighter1/Ranger1 you end up with lots of great abilities and a solid BAB progression with +6, +2, +0 for your base saves at 3rd level and at 6th level following the same pattern: +9, +3, +0. So you are really only losing out on your will save, which can be compensated for by putting a decent score in Wisdom and taking the feat Iron Will. Then at each level after that you'll gain a +1 to your will save, and on two of those levels a +1 to your Ref save. So as a Barbarian3/Fighter3/Ranger3 your base saves will be +9, +5, +3. A total of 5 points more than if you went as a straight-up Barbarian or Fighter, and a total of 2 points more than if you went as a straight up Ranger. Only a Monk or Favored Soul would have a higher total for their base saves at this point, by 1 point.

For the ultimate stacking of Saving throw bonuses though you'd have to go with Monk/Favored Soul. +6, +6, +6 for your base saves by 4th level, already equal to a single classed monk or favored soul at 9th level.

Not that I'm actually suggesting you do any of these things. In your own particular case, you're going have an abysmal Ref save, but a decent Will save and an excellet Fort save. But, as long as you have a lot of hit points this won't be a problem, because Ref saves are usually just for reducing the damage taken be spells.

Thanks Ruhl-Than Sage

The character in question is not mine but another in my group.
I guess (from what he says) he also wants to begin adding
rouge to the mix a little later.

Interesting combo
Fighter / Cleric / Rouge.
