Basic question about memorizing spells each day [Archive] - Wizards Community

For example, if a wizard can memorize 4 1st and 4 2nd level spells, can he choose to memorize 8 1st level spells for the day?

However, a 1st-level spell prepared in a 2nd-level slot still counts as a 1st-level spell for all purposes; save DC for example. The metamagic feat Heighten Spell would have it count as a 2nd-level spell.
