The Battle Scion varient class is a very open ended class. While it list only one sample weapon, the clear intention of the Battle Scion, and the rest of the Scion classes, is to act as examples to model your own scion weapons after.

Or in other words, a battle scion's weapon can basically be anything within reason. This is probably something you'll want to discuss with your DM.

Spellcasting+melee fighting?

Cleric
Favored Soul
Druid
Sorcerer/(fighter/monk/etc)
Wizard/(fighter/monk/etc)
Ranger
Paladin
Hexblade
Various PrCs for arcane spell casters
Bard
Dragon Shaman (or Dragonfire Adept? Can't remember)
Warlock (with PrCs)
War Mage (with PrCs)
Duskblade (it works really well. Really, really well)

There are probably more. This took about 30 seconds.

I believe the OP meant he didn't want to play a Battle Scion (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/magic/legendaryWeapons.htm#battleScion) with a Drakeblade (http://www.d20srd.org/srd/variant/magic/legendaryWeapons.htm#drakeblade). Not that he didn't want to play a Duskblade. I could be wrong though.
