I have been thinking of doing a character that focus not on damge spells in the battlefield but more of Manipulating the Battlefield with spells like changing or modifying the area with earthquakes, entangle or something like that. The problem I am having now is which class would work best that can both have a good spells list and casting those spells during a day. any ideas?

Sounds like a Druid. Earthquake, entangle, Fog spells, reverse gravity, spike growth, ... IMO, summoning is also some kind of battlefield manipulation. If you donīt want to prepare spells, just look after the spirit shaman in complete Divine for more versatility, but I prefer the Druid.

Druid or Wizard.

At lower levels a druid is better at this. But higher up, the wizards get access to certain battlefield control spells that druids don't, and some of these are extremely effective. In particular many of the wall and cloud spells. But also enchantments and illusions which can be used in this manner as well.

Possible compromise: Arcane Heirophant. Buff the crap out of your familiar/companion. Use natural spell/wildshape to fly around as a bird and cast battlefield control spells and summon monsters.

What about the Beguiler from PHII, a specialist in Enchantment and Illusion spells

Clerics have access to several BC type spells, including some enchantments. But they don't get a lot of them, and typically need to divert resources elsewhere (party healing and buffs, self buffs).

Beguilers don't have access to most of the BC spells such as walls or other terrain altering spells. Nor do they get any summon monsters. They are very good at confusing or controlling the enemy (which is an important aspect of BC), but are not good at all when it comes to altering the battlefield.

Druids have very good terrain altering spells and can summon monsters better than anyone. They lack the enchantments and illusions that arcane casters have access to.

Wizards get the best BC spells and also the best enchantments and illusions (prismatic wall, mirage arcana, acid fog, etc..). Sorcerers do too, of course, but often don't have the spell slots to have a wide variety of them available, although at higher levels they can switch out lower level spells for good no-save, no-SR BC spells (e.g. solid fog). A high level wizard can easily have several terrain altering spells, a couple summons, some enchantments and illusions, and still have his personal buffs and some damage and save-or-die spells each day. I mean, its what wizards DO.

What are some of the good prestige classes for this concept?

Take a wizard or druid and add some roleplay. This doesn't need a PrC full of custom class abilities to be done well.
