I am playing my first non-spellcaster in many years and need a bit of help. My dwarven Ranger/Fighter is on the cusp of gaining a level (currently 2nd level) and I am looking for a Prc for the future. I have heard about the Battlesmith from Races of Stone and it has peaked my interest but I don't currently have access to the book. Has anyone had experience (good or bad) with the PrC? What can you tell me about the class? Any and all information would be apreciated, even down to whether RoS is worth the cost.

BattleSmith is a very nice little 5 level pClass if you want to make magic items. It gives you the Create Magic Arms and Armor feat and gives you an effective caster level equal to 3 times your Battlesmith class level so at 1st level you can create +1 items, at second +2 and so on. You get a Fighter's BAB progression which is also nice. If you take all five levels and are using a hammer that you create and armor that you create, you get bonuses to both. You also become the party's best friend since you can create +5 weapons, armor and shields at 10th level instead of waiting until 15th.

The downside is only there if you have taken feats aimed at other weapons forms. Bow feats are relatively recoverable since you can create yourself a Dwarven Thrower and gain all the bonuses for a hammer you made yourself and use the bow feats (except weapon focus, etc) when you throw it.

Hope this helps -CJ
