Beating someone up with my bear hands [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-13-07, 03:53 PM Let's say I have a monk, who's also a natural werebear lycanthrope. If i decided to level up either my werebear template class, or take levels in the bear (lycanthrope) class, would i no longer be able to take any more levels in monk?

I know the PM says that if i'm a monk, and i take a level in something other than monk, i lose the ability to level up in monk any more, but werebear isn't a normal class....

I guess by RAW they couldn't level up as a Monk anymore, but I'd probably allow it as a DM.

I think it's in the spirit of the rules for you to be able to level up in monk. If I were your DM, I would allow it.

I read the topic and clicked on it, HOPING that you hadn't simply misspelled 'bare' and was pleasantly surprised.

As for your question, I would say that yes you could level up in both, as the werebear class is not really a class per se, but more akin to a racial progression.

Obviously, your DM will make their own call, but if it were my game, that's what I'd say. But I'm also of the mind that the arbitrary restrictions on the monk could be loosened.

04-13-07, 06:52 PM Lycanthrope isn't a real class. It is a template that is split up into a class to let you take it in parts, instead of the normal "all at once" method. So it shouldn't affect your multiclassing at all.
