| Dragons Breath03-18-04, 09:23 PM | I know nothing about D&D but I would like to find out how to play. I've heard that this game is the bomb but everyone says if you havn't played now it's to late to start because it's complicated. I know I can learn how to play this game if someone who believes in bringing new players to the game will help. I would like to request inly a very good and expeienced person reply to the benefits of my learning this game and also only one person help me so we can reply back and forth so I can understand this game to the best of my ability. Thanks in advance! |

I've heard that this game is the bomb but everyone says if you havn't played now it's to late to start because it's complicated. While there are a lot of rules, DnD version 3.5 isn't really all that hard to start with. I suggest you buy the Adventure Game (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndcore/863490000). It's pretty inexpensive and gives you everything you need to play (other than a few freinds). This set uses a watered-down set of rules that make everything really simple to understand. If you find that Adventure Game fun, then you'de probably like the more complicated version of the game (which is the one that most people use). To play this verison, you will need a copy of the Players Handbook (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndcore/175240000), Dungeon Master's Guide (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndcore/175240000), and the Monster Manual (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndcore/177550000), along with some paper, pencils, and the dice from the Adventure Game. If you can't afford those, then the System Reference Document (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/article/srd35) can substitute for them, although it doesn't have everythign you need to play the game and leaves out pretty much all of the flavor text (in other words, the SRD doesn't have detailed descriptions of the creatures, classes, etc). |
| Sucineri03-18-04, 11:04 PM | Well, I learned the game a couple years ago..took a few game sessions before I got a hang of stuff, and even now I am still learning stuff..but it isn't hopeless to start now as you stated. |
| Jaerom Darkwind03-18-04, 11:22 PM | it took me a couple weeks to get the hang of the rules, a couple months to master them, and only a month or two more to develop into the min/maxing genius you see before you today. Don't worry too much, and remember: the more you play, the more you learn. If only there were decent 3E MUDs. :( |
