Any thoughts or opinions? With the level adjustment there will be a loss of power since you miss out on a very nice ability, other than that it a very good class. |
| Marcus Majarra01-02-08, 01:43 AM | There's also the big drawback of most beguiler spells allowing for both saves and SR, which the drow enjoy. It's great fluff, but awful, awful crunch. |
| Surgo01-02-08, 01:53 AM | Yeah, I'm sure the amazing Drow spell resistance of 5 + HD is really going to hamper you. The beguiler is a ridiculously awesome class, getting most of the best spells in the game on their huge spell list and being able to cast them spontaneously. The rest of the class is just icing on the cake. Just watch out for that level adjustment. |

But Spell Penetration and Greater Spell Penetration would almost make it a non-issue. I'd recommend both as low to mid level feats. And yeah... I think the class was made for a Menzo game! |

If you do do this, burn up both feats of spell penatration, or all you'll have in you pocket are you buff spells, and half your illusion repitrue. And if all your party are drow then the LA won't matter. |
| radkins01-02-08, 11:38 AM | Well, there is always an issue when playing a full caster with a level adjusted race. Other than that beguilers are really fun to play. 9th level spells, tons of skill points, and casting in light armor are always fun. The saves and SR are a problem with most of the beguiler's spells. I would assume you're playing a forogotten realms campaign, so be sure to grab shadow weave magic. Spell focus and pentration are pretty handy too. |
| Surgo01-02-08, 12:05 PM | What? Was Drow spell resistance boosted in an errata or something? Or was I just thinking of Gith-races resistance this entire time? Oops. Still, you're going to need to deal with a lot of SR-holding enemies anyway. Just the Drow being common shouldn't scare you off of the class. |
| Phelf_Der_Zemit01-02-08, 01:43 PM | I agree with the shadow weave. Stay out of combat, no matter what the class looks or says. Dont-I meen, Dont get combat casting. Do either skill focus for it, or better yet, just forgo the entire thing and get Improved Initiative. This will let you get the first option, and maybe use charm person, making them your friend. Or just buff yourself so your not as "squishy". When you get advanced learning go for shadow evocation or even better. Try to get somthing with out spell resistance. After this max out your UMD and get a few wands (such as cure XXX, orb of acid), and try not getting caught having to use all your spells on SR. Get some scrolls, that way your not veiled with no more spells, as thats your bread and butter. PrC are shadow adept (dip for the three feats free) and Mindbender asap (one level dip for telepathy, then get mindsight feat from lords of maddness for blindsight out to your telepathy range). Just for me though, I love the flavor of the handcrossbow, get some posion and your golden. Your buff spells should be blur, and invisablity for sneaking. Also find some time to get mage armor on yourself, forgo the feat extend spell, but get a rod lesser, so you can have it on for a while. (one casting should get you through most of the day). That's all I got for right now. maybe more later. |
