| Sphyre05-15-06, 10:26 AM | The beguiler to me looks like a very fun and unique class. Like the rogue, it also has some very big drawbacks. Offensive combat abilities are limited to basically enchantments and illusions. Anything with a good will save can murder a Beguiler, along with anything that is immune to mind affecting abilities. In terms of defense, you're missing the ability to teleport or fly, and buff with transmutation that a wizard gets... This thread I'm looking into ways to minimize the weaknesses of the beguiler, giving the beguiler something to do when he'd otherwise run for cover. Use magic device. This seems to give the beguiler access to all sorts of spells and wands he otherwise would not have. Expensive? Yes, but at the same time, worth it. I was thinking Double Wand weilder, and Reckless Wand weilder might be nice, but both are feat heavy (Craft wand) Dominated person/monster. While this later in the game, having a dragon with a big beefy arm in the fray when your mind affecting spells can't do much can work. Advanced learning - shadow evocation, shadow conjuration. Give you some access to two different schools. Those are the ideas I've come up with... anyone else have any other ideas that are within the class' capabilities to help make up for lack of versatility in combat prowess? I was also thinking taking leadership and having a rogue cohort would be quite some flavor in terms of both lurking around in the shadows. |
