Beguiling Stats... [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-14-06, 11:04 PM Clever title eh? Anyway, the thing I'm curious about is the casting stat for Beguilers. To my knowledge, Beguilers are the only Spontaneous Arcane Caster that uses Int as thier Casting stat. Odder still, is that they are one of two (Again to my knowledge) casters that make good use of Charisma scores, after Bards. Whats even MORE confounding is the Dread Necromancer (The Necromantic partner to Warmage and Beguiler) uses the charisma casting stat, thats perfectly normal, but if I had to chose between using Int for one Spontaneous Casting class, I sure as heck wouldn't make a guy who considers Cemetaries happening places more charismatic than a class whose purpose is to manipulate people.

I'm just curious as to why this is. Did Wizards want to prevent Beguilers from being too manipulative, or did they want them to have good skill points? It just seems odd that they would jut from previous patterns. In the end, both Int and Cha based casting attributes have thier points, in this class, both have decent uses outside of casting. Just looking for opinions on this.

08-14-06, 11:25 PM Unless I missed something I believe the Duskblade is also a spontaneous caster that uses INT as its casting stat.

The Beguiler really could have used either CHA or INT as a casting stat. I agree the CHA would have made more sense because most of the other spontaneous casters use it and it would have pushed the manipulative aspect of the class. Because the class was designed to cover the Rogue's role I believe INT was chosen to promote good skill points. Skill points will easily make up some of a low CHA's skill loss.

I imagine the Dread Necromancer uses CHA as part of the intimidation factor. WIS and CHA are the stats controlling the Self and you'd better know yourself very well if you want to keep messing around with life energies.

08-15-06, 10:29 AM Ah, guess I missed a few, thats a bad one on my part. So theres not the precedent I thought, though I still find it odd that the Beguiler deviates from standard when he really would benefit with standard. Ah well, more skill points for me.
