No, you're not. If you didn't want to offend anyone, you wouldn't've posted something offensive.

That's like saying, "You're ugly and stupid, and you smell like poop, and I hope you get run over by a stampeding jackelope... no offense."

I really hate Mongoose Publishing now.

I was ready for forgive them after the awesomeness that was Q.Monk, but I JUST DON'T KNOW ANYMORE.

Hardcore rules lawyers like myself can't deal with this sort of moral ambiguity, especially in real life.

It's just a small freebie they had of it. Just something for some kicks so learn to take some humor in a game for once in your life.

This is probably the most offensive thing I have ever seen associated with any roleplaying game in all my years as a gamer. I can dismiss BoVD stuff as being a graphic part of the game, but such rl misogyny is truly vile. This "gaming expansion" smacks of the same stink that a handout on "Jewish people being inferior to other humans" or "homosexuals being the spawn of Satan" would hold.

Frankly, I am disgusted with Mongoose publishing and you also Chompman. I know you thought that this was funny, but I'm sure the Germans thought pictures of Jews made to look like rats were just as funny when they saw them in their Nazi controlled daily papers.

I respond with the above once again. And where do you get this nazi reference. That is totally off the wall. Just think of it as a response to the people that played D&D before it was cool  and never got a date and wanted revenge. :D

Hehe! This is hilarious! Anyone who is getting bent out of shape by this really needs to step back and take a look at their life... if this is the worst thing you encounter, consider yourself a lucky person!

let people have some fun!:ayyyy!:

Eh, I'm not terribly offended.
The tone of the article and indeed the fact the book even exists indicates it's a parod.
The guy's not serious, though if he was this would be terribly offensive.

It is however, terribly lame.

The sort of thing you look at in the games store out of morbid curiousity, and put down never to buy.

Why publish something no-one's going to buy?
At best this stuff is website worthy.

But I mean that in a Good way.

The product is all in fun, BUT it is offensive to some. If you werent trying to get a rise out of somebody, then you had a serious lapse in judgement.

On another note, the ladies purse IS a Bag of Holding. I can pour my wife's purse out, and I get about 3 times the volume out that it looks like it can hold. Or maybe it's a Heward's Handy Haversack.

Ok, must stop now... Any way, I have come to call my wife's purse the pit of dispair... I even think there is a kitchen sink in there somewhere... What is all that needed for?... I carry keys, all the stuff in my wallet, and a few scraps of paper, and get no where near the shear volume of stuff the the "pit" holds...

Now, to my anger...

Hmm, tough one. I have been called a misogynist before, and I am not afraid of the label. I thought it was amusing too, but probably only due to my being raised by a psycho feminist mother figure ( man-hating ), and because I am not female. I think the women have a legitimate gripe.

It would have been different if Mongoose published both versions, but really, 2 wrongs do not make a right. Since it is an obvious disparagement of women, it would probably best not to link us a site like this again. In fact, I think the moderators should be made aware of the link, the thread closed, and the link abolished.

Boy all this love from my fans makes me remember an old SNL skit where they talked about everyone in the world banding together against the camp counsler (Alec Baldwin) that went after Adam Sandler when they were all alone. Ah, the great snl days with him and chris farley.

You guys make me feel all warm and fuzzy :D

Just wait when they do a male version of this then you will be happy.

Well, all i have to say is that whoever wrote this is a male, right wing, shovenstic pig. Just because you are offended by something calling girls sluttish, obese, or violent does NOT mean that you're a bleeding heart liberal. Using those books is like being in the special olimpics. Even if you win, you're still a retard.

Well.
I when the Browser said Mongoose I knew to expect crap or sheer, unadulterated, every-quintessencial-book-should-come-with-a-free-kick-in-the-neck-because-you're-a-moron-for-buying-it crap.
It could be worse I guess.

I mean, there was no ugly goth chick LARPer class.

For those that don't have one make up a version for males and post that and will I complain...no becuase it is humor and doesn't target me alone just a general area that we can laugh at because it's true.

Joke or not, no need for it... I'm not laughing, as others are not laughing either... I can't belive you actually thought that was funny or needed to be posted... Things like this give gamers a bad name...

It gives us something to laugh about even if you don't find it funny or not. I have read some dwarf jokes that have been posted that has me looking for an axe to use but hey it's called a joke which the book excatly is.

What gives gamers a bad name are some people that take things like this to far and shows other people that we can't take a joke every now and then.

There is no comparison here, Chompman. The posts you reference are speaking of DnD dwarves. A shorter than normal race with bad manners and a vapid ignorance of the truth when it goes against their world view that you obviously share. That does not make you a fantasy genre dwarf, however.

The pdf you referenced, however, refers to real life human beings that exist in places other than our minds. The PEOPLE you so jovially laugh at when you read this post are just that... Let me speak a little bit about the possible women referenced in this file you are so fond of...

A woman who has had everything in her life go wrong to the point where she treats the world as someone treated her when she was young...in a sexual means. She "slaps circuts" as it were because she has never been treated like anything but a tramp her entire life. Instead of seeing the gravity of this situation present in the life of a fellow gamer the folks at mongoose publishing decided to laugh at her thus perpetuating the cycle that forces her into such self-depreciating behavior.

Another woman who knows she has a weight problem, but loves roleplaying games because it is possibly the only part of her life where people don't laugh or make her feel like less of a woman just because she is overweight. She wants to flaunt her womanhood at these conventions because in roleplaying games she can feel sexy which, contrary to popular belief, is a big part of most women's lives. She loves the escape and is sharing in the experience that a convention has for all of us, but the folks at Mongoose publishing would rather deny her her rights as a woman and gamer by instead laughing at her at the one place she feels safe and secure and happy.

Finally, we have a woman who is a gamer just like any other guy, but because somebody at Mongoose got burned when an attractive and intelligent woman shot him down because he was probably as repulsive as this posting he labelled her a "dy**". So now it is okay for those of us who were beaten up and bullied in high school to turn into the jock ***holes that did the bullying? If a woman isn't interested in you she is automatically a lesbian? How would you react if you were in her shoes? Every time she sits down at a convention table she's seen as a bubble-headed woman who is obviously there to hook up with all the guys at the table...of course she's a bit guarded!!! So, since she just wants to be treated as one of the guys she must be a butch lesbian huh? Please...

Look, I'm assuming you haven't thought of things in this way. I want to give you and all the others who have posted here a different viewpoint as to why people find this offensive. We live in a world of stereotypes and some brave people fight against these stereotypes or get trapped by them. In the first case we find a woman who has been beaten into thinking she has no value and must overtly become a negative stereotype...in the latter two cases we have women who see gaming and gaming conventions as their chance to break free and just be people. By supporting this kind of trash that Mongoose put out you are only saying that a woman is inferior and should stay in their place. We are all intelligent people...I mean..we are all gamers aren't we? How can you buy into this kind of crap?

Anyway, I'll step off the soapbox. I'm sorry if people see me as fanatical, but I've had too many female friends in my life wind up in very bad mental/emotional/physical places due to the abuse that a society ruled by men can place on them.

Sincerely,

Feyd

P.S.-C'mon guys, I know there are other men out there that are repulsed by this post...speak up!

I think it's totally irresponsible and dissapointing for a company who's put out several of my favorite d20 books to sponsor this foolishness. Has that been said yet?
Chompman

10-27-03, 06:27 PM
Feyd Rautha this was ment only as humor man and I hope the people that are smart enough to play D&D which is far from the easiest game knows that.

It says so in the book even so there is nothing wrong with a little humor for some people. They will be coming out with a male version soon enough so we can all get a kick out of that also.

And how do you know that I am not a "fantasy genre dwarf" huh? You never know maybe we got the internet underground too, just a problem keeping the goblins from chewing on the cables the lil filty creatures :D

i thought it was funny. people are too thin skinned these days. it would have been just as funny if they had a PrC for 6 foot tall 135 lb 26 year olds in graduate school, if they added enough special features to make it funny. i might have been like

Feyd,
As much as I think you have a legitimate gripe, I think you are also frothing a bit over this. Your vehement response has lead me to believe that no matter who is in the majority, we who are targeted, are always the "victims". I too get a little turned off when I read things of this nature targeted against men. I doubt you will believe me, but it is the truth, and I have seen plenty. Know what I am told each and every time I see it and I protest?: "You are a man, deal with it." Guess what? Same goes. Deal with it.

You expect everyone else to be offended simply because you are, and it just ain't gonna happen. I agree with you, it should not be posted here, and I would even go so far as to agree that it is tasteless, but I still laughed at it. I sometimes, though rarely, laugh at man-bashing jokes. It is life, this is humor, get over it. This is not going to set back the women's movement, at worst it is a minor stab at all the gains women have made, and it shows a jealousy, I think, of the power women have in this world over men.
Chompman

And then there were times why I questioned WotC changing their d20 standards. Web enhancements like this show me the reason why ...

At any rate, if you want to talk about Mongoose publishing enhancement, you might want to talk about them overon their boards. At the very least, the attachment violates the Code of Conduct since many target stereotypes and groups.

And since the thread was to talk about these stereotypes, and I've closed the link, now it's time to close the thread. Bye-bye.
