| downwitmal05-15-06, 12:14 AM | How long does Berserker strength last? Is it the same as it was for rage? Not sure of I'm just to tired but I am missing the duration of this replacement feature. Also there is no mention of adding to CON in the description? Is that a mistake? It seems like if it gets activated when you get down to below 5/barabarian level then it should add to you hp. It also doesn't say whether there is a fatigue penalty, is there? One last thing...what does damage reduction 2/- mean? 1 pt dr at 2nd level??? |
| Raven Dark05-15-06, 01:22 AM | How long does Berserker strength last? Is it the same as it was for rage? Not sure of I'm just to tired but I am missing the duration of this replacement feature. It does not have a duration nor a per dy limit. So long as your current Hit Points are 5 x Barbarian level (thus a 5th level Barbarian would have to have 25 or less hit points) it is active. If at any time your Hit Points go above this limit, the Beserker Strength ends. Also there is no mention of adding to CON in the description? Is that a mistake? It seems like if it gets activated when you get down to below 5/barabarian level then it should add to you hp. That is because it does not add a Constitution bonus. If it did do that, you would go berserk, gain Hit Points, and then suddenly lose your Berserker Strength because you went back above the Hit Point threshhold, which would then cause you to lose the Hit Points which would...cause an eternal loop of insanity. It also doesn't say whether there is a fatigue penalty, is there? Good question. I don't believe there is one. One last thing...what does damage reduction 2/- mean? 1 pt dr at 2nd level??? It means you get DR 2/- (up to 4/- for higher level barbarians) which stacks with your pre-existing Barbarian damage reduction. Thus, a 20th level barbarian with Beserker Strength active has DR 9/-. This makes up somewhat for the lack of a Constitution bonus EDIT: Also note that Besearker Strength grants you a bonus to ALL saves, not just Will saves. So it's nto all bad. |
| ghost_warlock05-15-06, 01:44 AM | DR 2/- means two points of damage reduction that nothing bypasses. |
| Wolfman198705-15-06, 04:27 PM | Two points of damge reduction that no weapon bypasses. Spells and energy ignore all damage reduction regardless of its type, do they not? |
| Raven Dark05-15-06, 04:33 PM | Two points of damge reduction that no weapon bypasses. Spells and energy ignore all damage reduction regardless of its type, do they not? That's right. Spells and energy damage bypass damage reduction completely--as does any form of damage not considered an attack (like falling damage). |
| Sledged05-15-06, 05:10 PM | That's right. Spells and energy damage bypass damage reduction completely--as does any form of damage not considered an attack (like falling damage).Actually, the rules say nothing about how falling damage and damage reduction interact (at least not that I've found). The Damage Reduction section under special abilities talks about attacks from weapons, energy attacks, spells, spell-like abilities, and supernatural abilities, but it doesn't mention any damage that falls outside those categories. |
| belthazzar111305-15-06, 05:29 PM | actually in our game we say that any massive blunt trauma, such as falling damage or getting an inn dropped on you (no joke, its come up), doesn't automatically go through damage reduction. We just remember all the movies and tv shows and stories where the big bad guy would have something heavy fall on them and they just shrug it off. or where the big invincible warrior was thrown off a cliff and then gets up with a wince but moves on. It just seems kinda random to say oh no falling ten feet will break your legs, but getting hit with a greatax won't hurt you.... that just doesn't make sense to me. we haven't noticed that it unbalances things overmuch... i mean yeah it means you can't just drop a tavern on a guy with damage reduction... but if you set that tarvern on fire first, then you are right back in the ball game. |
