Hey I have never been a Hexblade before but it seemed like a really cool base class. I am just looking for some suggestions for filling out my character. It looks like you get some really great abilities just sticking with the base class, but what are your suggestions for good PrCs for the class? Thanks.

I know how tempting it is to take a PrC. But, hexblade, if not played right, is extrememly underpowered. if played right it is a very Awsome class. And the best route for a hexblade is improving his hexblade abilities. Hexblade is the best class for a Hexblade to go/stay into. dire hexblades curse (unamed penalty), combined with an intimidation (Fear effect penalty), combined with a Curse-spewing weapon special ability (unamed) means like...-10 on all d20 rolls. ouch? can you get ther ewithout going all hexblade? no, you'll get up to -4 or -6 or something, which is good, but not great. and spells get way better at the higher spell lvl end of the list.

If you're just using hexblade as a 3 level dip, then multi-classing to rogue/blackguard makes an interesting combo. It also makes an interesting Gish, 3 levels of hexblade and then sorcerer2/gish PrC out can be fun.

If you want to use your hexblade abilities(past level 3) stay in hexblade. If you look for it I know there is a good hexblade handbook on the optimization boards.

The Designer/writer for the class actually posted a suggested "fix" for the class here a while ago. Look around for it,I have seen it linked to a few times.

One decent route is to go into arcane archer. Now, both hexblade and arcane archer are mid to low powered classes, but they do synergize pretty well. You get the arcane caster requirement for arcane archer without losing any BAB. So if you ever wanted to play arcane archer, hexblade is a good way to get there. Works well in a low magic campaign.

Something I've found works rather well for me if it's permitted is Talon of Tiamat. You can enter into the prestige class after your fourth level of Hexblade, if I'm not mistaken. It won't exactly help your Hexblade abilities, but I find that it worked extremely well in experience.

Here's a few more decent PrCs:

Mindbender- The hexblade doesn't mind losing a few caster levels unlike most other arcanists. A hexblade13/mindbender7 will get 16 BAB as well as dominate 1/day with a 19 DC plus cha modifier and the minuses to your foe's save thanks to dark companion and your curse.

Blackguard-Add your cha to you saves, rebuke undead to fuel divine feats like divine might (since you'll already have power attack), and heavy armor. Hexblade17/blackguard3 is a start.

Abjurant champion- Nice since you can get combat casting for free. You can set your caster level equal to your BAB and be able to cast some swift abjurations (and you get a few like protection from alignment and dispel magic). Hexblade15/abjurant champion5 is the build here.

My suggestion, Stay with it, maybe a two level dip into monk. This grants you natural attacks so that you can use arcane strike with all your attacks, and gets you evasion. Also get "minor shape shifting feat" from complete arcane. If you find you are lacking spells for arcane strike, I suggest getting arcane deciple if you have a high enough wisdom.

my g/f played one w/ a lvl or 2 in fighter then graduated to Occult Slayer (Comp. Warrior) to deadly effect. the Mettle class feature is pretty much geared to combating spells, (Sp), and (Su) so run w/ it. it's like evasion but a bit better.
