well, to be honest, this looks like it belongs on the character optimizing boards.

i also think you're going to get a whole range of builds that can be the 'best ever'. i, myself, am not that great at mixing classes together to get uber-hero. in fact, i tend to build my characters more from a very cinematic and thematic p.o.v., rather than, 'hmm...how can i get 1000 dam with my buster sword?'.

i think one of the interesting arguments will start when they begin introducing 'melee' character builds with significant levels in spellcasting classes.

as for me, i'm pretty sure it's nowhere close to being uber-hero, but i really like the new martial adept classes from the tome of battle; best supplemental book that WoTC has produced in years, imo. they really make melee combat fun, and take a lot of the hack/slash out of the hack/slash, while making melee fighters even more dangerous than ever.

a real step in the right direction.

Umm.....he wrote it in english, although without capital letters, and appeared to have fully formed thoughts. Are you wanting it translated into another language? Textspeak perhaps?

The best melee build depends on the players style of play. Do you want to be an unstopable tank who is seldom hit or a complete killing machine. If you say killing machine do you want to be a two handed power attacker, aTWFing blitz attacker, or a sword and boarder(possibly TWF with shield bash). The sword and board may give you the best damage with high AC. What character concept suits you most?

Here's an excellent sugestion on the top of my head for a good melee build

elf fighter4/ranger2/revenant blade5/tempest5/dervish6. Seriously Valenar elves (eberron) armed with double scimitars are truly frightning two-weapon fighters....

I personally perfer TWFing melee combatants due to their great damage dealing but as Dragoloth said, its all about what you want.

Sorry if this isn't the case, but this screams "troll post" to me.

...so why am I responding to it? :thinks:

The best melee build is obviously Pun-Pun (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=491801) or the Omniscifier. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=546612) Of course, given that they can both do ANYTHING, melee is really a waste of their talents. Besides, they're simply thought exercises, and there deserves to be smiting if anyone tries to use one of these in an actual campaign.

From what I've seen on the Character Optimization boards, the best melee builds are really any build that focuses on an effective melee combat trick and does it very well. Case in point: take a look at shadow pouncers, (http://boards1.wizards.com/showpost.php?p=9814002&postcount=17) charging builds, (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?p=5769497) gishes (http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:ESxyCW507OUJ:boards1.wiza rds.com/showthread.php%3Ft%3D626146+gish+competi tion+site:boards1.wizards.com&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=1&gl=ca&client=firefox-a), psi-gishes (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=227556) and builds that take CustServ's dubious interpretation of maneuvers to its logical conclusion. (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=764997)

As any of these links show, if you're looking to build an optimal character, take it to the Character Optimization boards. They can and will make most builds that you or I can come up with look like a Commoner 20.
