However, the class I generally use for necromancers, the Dread Necromancer, loses it's biggest capstone ability with the WF, since they cannot become liches. So, what other options are out there for a really good "I animate undead hordes to do my bidding" Necro? |
| neth208-09-06, 11:17 PM | you can still play a dread necro, you just don't have to go the full 20, which a lot of people don't do anyways |
| Drago08-09-06, 11:59 PM | I would say a really good way to achieve hordes of undead without Dread Necro is to multi-class cleric/wizard and take True Necromancer out of Libris Mortis. Not only does it yield nearly full progression for both divine and arcane spellcasting you also get access to create undead much earlier along with having a zone of desecration to bolster those hordes of undead you have. |
| neth208-10-06, 12:11 AM | i'm building a dread necro 8/ palemaster10/X2 it screams undead horde |
| Kresalak08-10-06, 12:36 AM | Dread Necromancer ends at level 8. Dread Necro 8/prestige 12. If you can use the Tome of Necomancy, that provides extra awesome. |
| Sivis08-10-06, 12:48 AM | 1. I love the pick! His familiar was a robotic toad? Is that a feat or just for fun? 2. Can Warforged be a lich? lol |

| Draco Argentum08-10-06, 02:23 AM | I second the Tome of Necromancy (http://bb.bbboy.net/thegamingden-viewthread?forum=1&thread=684) suggestion. Start with cleric or DN level then jump into whatever PrC from there you happen to fancy. Other than that horde of undead characters have few options. |
| Eela608-10-06, 02:32 AM | Honestly, by the time you get to Level 20, you *deserve* something special. Talk to your DM about it. Remember, Warforged are both living and construct. A Lich-esque construct could be very cool, having abandoned it's created shell long ago. In fact, you could simply rip off the Ghula (mystic sigil, not unlike the words that governed the Golem of Prague) and attach that to the phalatercy. Remember, however, that Warforged have a charisma penalty. Dread Necromancer might not be the best route to go. |
| Edymnion08-10-06, 10:21 PM | 1. I love the pick! His familiar was a robotic toad? Is that a feat or just for fun?Its a clockwork toad. I dunno why he put that in there, I would have done an undead something, but thats just me. Although, honestly, now that people mention it, a Cleric/Dread Necromancer would be able to meet the True Necromancer's prereqs at lvl 7, or lvl 6 as a Cleric/Wizard. But honestly, I don't like the idea of putting Cleric in the mix, as the character wouldn't really be interested in faith of any kind, so I guess True Necromancer is out of the question. Pale Master could work well straight out of Dread Necromancer, as long as I find some better flavor for the undead graft. |
