I have a 2nd edition 10th level thief that I am converting to 3.5. I want him to eventually get the Assassin PC. Right now I am considering going 5 levels thief, 2 levels ranger, 2 levels fighter, and 1 level assassin. I am trying to get the best combination of feats/skills/attack bonus etc., but I am not yet completeley educated on all the various 3.5 rules. Does anyone have some recommendations for me on how to 1) reach the assassin PC and 2) have a pretty bad ass character with great capabilities? Thanks in advance.

Try the character optimization thread, actually.

But anyway, I say focus your abilities on remaining undetected, then when the moment is right, hitting extremely hard, and then focus on getting out quickly.

What books are available? Here is my favorite assassin build: http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=4078961#post4078961

Phaedrus & Marros thanks for the suggestions. My race is half-elf and as I said he is a 2nd edition 10th level thief. So given that what would be you (or anyones) suggestions, level by level of how to build an awesome bountyhunter/assassin character leading or eventually going into the assassin PC? And thanks again for the previous replies.

its a bit different that what you started as, but I thought up a Bard/Assassin a while back that was pretty nifty. For 10th level, it would be Bard 7/Assassin 3. Bard gave me the little bit of extra spellcasting I wanted and kept the rogue stealth abilities.

Otherwise, you might as well just go Rogue 5/Assassin 5 to maximum sneak attack and spells. If you really want warrior levels, take either Ranger 2 or Fighter 2. Doing both just slows you down. Personally, I'd take ranger levels to get two-weapon fighting and better skills.

Bounty Hunter/Assassin idea: Rogue 3/Ranger 2/Assassin 5/Justiciar 10. Justiciar is in Complete Warrior. Have to be lawful evil, but thats the most fun alignment.

Thanks MetalGemini, thats along the line of what I was looking for. I like your suggestions. I am not not totally comfortable with 3.5 yet so picking all that stuff, deciding feats and skills and everything, alway makes me wonder if I overlooked something or missed something that would help my charcter.
