I have been looking for the best races to be a Monk that have either no LA or a LA +1.

I am interested in what you all have to in this matter.

Half-Orc and Human are the best Core races for a Monk.

Zenythri and Goliaths make good LA +1 Monk races.

Half-ogre (but LA +2)

Because larger is better.

In this case half-minotaur is good too. I'd say human, dwarf, azurin, that kind of thing - maybe neraph from the more exotic ones. I've heard good things about half-orc monks, but I dislike their racial abilities. For LA+1s, there are a few nice templates like draconic, mineral warrior, or feral. I've heard nice things about catfolk, but it is a bit trickier.

I dont have a book nearby, but i think the bug-looking 4 armed race from XPH (thri-kreen or something like that) would make a good monk simply because of more unarmed attacks. I don't know what the lv-adjustment or ability modifiers are but I figured I'd put in my 2cp

wood elf is good too.. +2 to str and dex and -2 to int and con isn't too bad.

-2 con can be a little nasty. I <3 draconic wood elves, though, especially if you can buy it off. BTW, the gnoll monk can be very interesting with the Long Reach feat and a feat/variant that allows them to flurry with the longspear. Other than that, the racial HD on it are awful.

Shaman, where, if any, is there a template for the half-mintour?

Not Shaman, but the half-minotaur is from one of the Dragon magazines. It's way too powerful, and can be easily abused to create ridicilous race combos. I'd suggest using the DragonLance minotaur as half-minotaur in campaigns, where MM minotaur exists.

BTW, warforged make good monks, even though they get -2 penalty to Wisdom; Composite plating provides +2 armor bonus that doesn't interfere monks abilities like normal armors, Battlefist increases monks unarmed damage as if he's one size category larger.

Warforged are good, even though they don't benefit from the Monk's immunity to poison and disease (wait, they've got that anyway!)

They also benefit greatly from the Monk's ability to heal themselves (a weakness of Warforged in a party lacking arcane or psionic characters).

Their slam attack can be used in the same Full attack as a Flurry (sure, it does less damage, but it's one more opportunity to hit them).

Catfolk are good monks as they have an amazing Dex for LA+1 (+4 Dex), a faster land speed than most (40ft), and Natural Armor. Come to think of it, there's nothing Catfolk aren't good at (not saying there's not something better, just saying they're not bad at anything).

Raptorans (Races of the Wild) could make an interesting Monk. The Monk's speed bonus as written also applies to their fly speed, giving them an edge over most.

Contrary to popular belief, Dwarves are excellent monks. Their slower speed, while (somewhat) compensated for at higher levels, makes them a pain to try and play as the famous "fast class" is bungling on at the speed of the fighter (Small monks have a similar problem, but at least they tend to be harder to hit). Also, the Dwarf's ability to continue moving at that speed is a moot point since Monk's lose their speed bonuses in those situations anyway.
