| GreatWyrm07-16-06, 09:59 PM | I'm playing a rogue for the first time, and I was wondering what everyone's favorite rogue PrCs are? |
| Osedox07-16-06, 10:02 PM | Go TWF with Kukris and do Invisible Blade from the Complete Warrior |
| Joush Mark07-16-06, 11:20 PM | Wizard. I know, that's not a presteage class, but with just a few levels in wizard you pick up some vary useful spells, along with the abilty to use wands. |
| LordPendragon07-16-06, 11:24 PM | Personally, I always like to do a 1-4 level dip into Shadowdancer. The only problem is the prerequisites. |
| shadow mage07-16-06, 11:59 PM | I'm playing a rogue for the first time, and I was wondering what everyone's favorite rogue PrCs are? I think he's asking for favorites, not necessarily suggestions. My favorite rogue PrC choice... is not to PrC at all. Use Magic Device is simply too cool, and useful, of a tool to let linger at any particular level for too long. If I had to choose, though, I'd say the more martial the better (if using UMD to its fullest, even better), or the more magical the better (if not really delving into UMD). Examples are Lasher (Sword and Fist) and Dark Hunter (Complete Warrior) for more martial builds, and more magical builds would use Arcane Trickster (Dungeon Master's Guide 3.5) or Assassin (also DMG). If the setting is Rokugan and the prerequisites are met, there is nothing bad about a four-level dip in Daidoji Bodyguard (Oriental Adventures). Or my Ghostwalker (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=347888) update. Rogue/ghostwalkers are just freakin' cool. -Shadow Mage |
| GreatWyrm07-17-06, 12:57 AM | I actually am looking for suggestions.. but I don't want straight-out optimization suggestions, if I did I'd go to the charop board. Which is why I asked for your favorite. I want something that is good and fun to play. Thanks for the suggestions so-far.. I'll look into them- |
| unundindur07-17-06, 03:43 AM | I actually am looking for suggestions.. but I don't want straight-out optimization suggestions, if I did I'd go to the charop board. Which is why I asked for your favorite. I want something that is good and fun to play. Thanks for the suggestions so-far.. I'll look into them- I love to play assassins(Dungeon master guide). Particularily the dark-elf scheming type  They are both rather effective (at what they do) and they allow for great mission variety. Simply excellent. I also love the high-elf dual wielding commander character. If this sounds interesting try bard/tempest(Complete warrior)/champion of corellon (Races of the wild). If you rather want a "typical" rogue, the dungeon delver or thief acrobat are both your friends. They both come from Complete adventurer. I hope I answered in the way you asked for... :) |
| azmodael07-17-06, 07:02 AM | Invisible blade (CW), assasin (DMG3,5) and Chameleon (Races of Destiny). |
| Cainin07-17-06, 08:14 AM | If I'm playing a "rogue," then I go straight rogue (though once I did multiclass into Occult Slayer for spell turning). While I love the assassin prestige (Complete Adventurer even gave it Wraith Strike uber cheese), it really only fits in my mind if that was part of the original personality makeup. Then I'm not playing a "rogue," but an "assassin." Whether I've got actual levels in the class is inconsequential. |
| TheMeanOne07-18-06, 12:28 AM | I like playing combat rogues, so I really like the assassin. I personally don't like starting out with a PrC in mind - I tend to slowly let my characters develop goals and solidify their attitude to adventuring and life. Often my rogues (and other classes) stop looking really like "rogues" because their personality has led them to other sorts of things. Piracy, or religous fervour are good examples of things that have captured my rogues imaginations. |
| Nerf_Samurai07-18-06, 12:42 AM | I always liked the master thrower from CW. It's insanely fun to sneak attack someone in the face from 30ft while in plain sight. |
| MerlintheTuna07-18-06, 02:04 AM | Thief Acrobat is a nice add-on to Rogue builds. You pick up a few Rogue special abilities earlier than would normally be possible (by Thief-Acrobat 5 you've got Defensive Roll 2/day and Improved Evasion) and a few neat odds and ends like Slow Fall and Fast Acrobatics. It's a solid 5-level PrC that's chock full of class features. The only problem is that none of those class features are Sneak Attack dice. |
| Mystyc07-18-06, 02:20 AM | I've always been partial to the Daggerspell Mage, myself... |
| Encard07-18-06, 02:28 AM | It really depends on what sort of character I want to end up with. Shadowdancer is a good general one for a dip, if the requirements aren't an issue. Aside from that... Master Thrower, Invisible Blade, Thief-Acrobat, Teflammar Shadowlord, and various others can be fun depending on the situation. |
| bitter thorn07-18-06, 06:03 AM | We had a Gnomish rogue who dipped into Gnome Giant Killer for a couple of levels. He had a Big honking war dog, dodge, mobility, and spring attack. He was a little package of Hell on wheels. |
| Kalis Atrud07-18-06, 08:31 AM | I always thought Ninja Spy(OA) was neat. Bunch of nice utility abilities such as walking on water, bonuses to climb, jump, tumble and balance, and a bit of disquise help. |
| Gemcaster07-18-06, 08:46 AM | Daggerspell mage is a good choice, the earthwalker in races of stone (not a rogue prc) is pretty good for a rogue if you dont mind loosing a couple sneak attack bonuses for the ability to move and see through stone. |
| Yosho07-18-06, 11:33 AM | I think the ghost-faced killer from CAdv would be a good martial rogue prc. However I have never played it. Has anyone played one, and if so was it useful. |
