| babysamurai08-10-05, 08:41 AM | Actually, what is the best LA +2 template for a Human Monk. |
| emeraldstreak08-10-05, 09:05 AM | Invest in high wisdom, get the Saint template with Vow of Poverty from Book of Exalted Deeds. It's insane combo for monks. |
| babysamurai08-10-05, 09:25 AM | Invest in high wisdom, get the Saint template with Vow of Poverty from Book of Exalted Deeds. It's insane combo for monks. I was leaning towards Saint, especially since my Monk is LG, highest score is Wis, and is focusing on Stunning Fist. About Vow of Poverty, it's a cool feat, but very problematic, and that's even if your DM will let you take it. Plus, I do want magic items. |
| emeraldstreak08-10-05, 09:48 AM | Then Saint only and get Touch of Golden Ice, the saint Holy Power boosts the DCs of both Stunning Fist and Touch of Golden Ice. |
| babysamurai08-10-05, 10:00 AM | Then Saint only and get Touch of Golden Ice, the saint Holy Power boosts the DCs of both Stunning Fist and Touch of Golden Ice. What, and where is this Touch of Golden Ice? |
| Maraxus08-10-05, 10:20 AM | Why the abyss do you want to play a human monk with a LA+2 template. Simply take two more class levels, or play a better race then human (half ogre). |
| Dhar Sedai08-10-05, 11:31 AM | Give him wings! Monk with wings is insane... Don't know if it is open source, but it gives bonus to dex and wis, flying at (for a monk with decent dex) perfect manouvrability and one hell of a speed;) It's a LA+2 template from Savage Species...One of the only good things from the book;) |
| kuromeru08-10-05, 12:19 PM | I know this has little to do with giving you advice, but what dose the "Vow of Poverty" do??? |
| slade_caizer08-10-05, 02:32 PM | A +2 LA template for a Human Monk.... :D Half-Vampire (Libris Mortis) |
| StormCrow4208-10-05, 03:32 PM | I know this has little to do with giving you advice, but what dose the "Vow of Poverty" do??? VoP is in the Book of Exalted Deeds and provided a tiered series of stat and save boosts (depending on your level) in exchange for you never owning/using anything but the most basic of gear (no magic, no armor, non-masterwork simple weapons). |
| emeraldstreak08-10-05, 05:36 PM | Touch of Golden Ice is a feat in Exalted Deeds. Basically, every successful attack or touch attack vs evil creatures ravages(that's like poison, but not quite - see ravages in Exalted) them and they lose lots of Dexterity. Combined with a flurry of blows you'll often drop your evil enemies to 0 Dex in a round. Then - coup de grace :D Or spare them, you'll be a Saint after all  |
| Melpomene08-10-05, 05:39 PM | Well, as you can see, you lose sanity for taking templates. Look at how many of them are "insane" or some such. For myself, I think I much enjoy templates which change that charticter to construct or undead, as it lets you ignore CON altogether, and much simplifies your life. |
| Xaean08-10-05, 07:21 PM | The best template is that which you have the best story for. Was your monk subject to magic experimentation, is there some exotic ancestor, divine blessing? These should be primary concerns. |
| runestar08-11-05, 01:46 AM | Of course, then you realise what a crappy dc golden ice has, and you can't turn it off, so you aren't going to be shaking any hands with any politicians any time soon...... :( Still for an ability that activates each time you hit a foe, I guess this more than warrants the low dc. |
| Kurama Youko08-11-05, 04:06 AM | if you want your monk to have wings, play a raptoran.. i think im gonna start playing to this race more now, at 10 hit dice they get unlimited flight. saint is good, so is the boed version of half celestial depending on your dm's standpoint on what it gives. Half Minotaur is cool, thats only a +1 though. |
| emeraldstreak08-11-05, 08:09 AM | Of course, then you realise what a crappy dc golden ice has DC Fort 14 at first level is more than enough, DC Fort 16 at sixth also. And at higher levels, when opponents get tough - Undead always have problems with DC fort 16, because they lack Con and Fort is a weak save for them, even Nightshades (CR 14-18 monsters) fail Fort 16 15-30% of the time, and that's for every single attack. Besides, even Balors and Pit Fiends can roll 1 and when this happens they lose 1d6+10 Dex immediately. That hurts. Concerning corrupt politicians: You're no bard. You're a Saint Monk. Not your problem. |
