Hi there, I have a 6th level Wizard and was looking for a Prestige Class to apply latter on and was wondering which P.Class would you say is the Most Powerful in terms of special abilities.

I don't yet own the "Tome and Blood" sourcebook or the Magic of Faerun sourcebook so I have no way of comparing. I did hear tell that Dragon Disciples earn 'Dragonlike' abilities, if this is true can someone explain them to me.

Thanks in advance.

if you can wait, you could try to become an archmage, that has some pretty convienient abilities. refer to page 178 of the DMG for the details.

Thaumaturgist is a nice prestige class. Why get in fights when you can summon huge beasts to do it for you? Conjuration is by far the most advantageous of the spell schools and at higher levels becomes a real fight winner.

Without a doubt, Incantatrix.

Wizards can't take thaumaturgist, they don't get planar ally spells. Although I do agree that, if the wizard could take it, it would be a great PrC for him.

Dragon disciples aren't really meant for wizards, they're more for sorcerers (although even that is debatable given their glaring lack of a decent caster level progression). As for the other PrC's in Tome and Blood: I found most to be decent and rather flavorful, I personally liked the Fatespinner and Mindbender PrC's, although some of the PrC's in there were crap like the wayfarer guild guide; stay away from those, fortunately they're pretty easy to spot.

There's the ever popular incantatrix PrC. Most wizards who are looking for power take that one. The 3.0 version is in Magic of Faerun and was widely considered to be overpowered to the point of broken. The 3.5 version is in Player's Guide to Faerun and is generally considered to be very good but not quite/just slightly overpowered.

edit: Gnarl beat me to it

Incantatrix (Player's Guide to Faerun) and Archmage (DMG)

Wiz 5 / Incantatrix 10 / Archmage 5 - then all epic levels into Incantatrix.

Incantatrix requirements: Concentration 4 ranks, Knowledge (arcana) 8 ranks, Spellcraft 8 ranks, Iron Will, any metamagic feat, able to cast 3rd lvl arcane spells, and cannot have abjuration as a prohibited school.

Incantatrix abilities: Bonus metamagic feats, apply metamagics to others' spells as they cast them and effects currently ongoing, lesser metamagic cost, instant metamagic. Really freakin' cool if you have any other casters in the group.

This build is quite strict on feat choices (to qualify for the prestige classes) but well worth the effort.

Wizzies dont get planar ally? Well, i didnt know that. How strange that it should be cleric only.

Well, in that case, i really have no idea on a class to recommend.

You could always become a cleric though )

I'll throw my vote in for the Incantatrix (or Incantatar if you're male). Keep in mind that the Improved Metamagic ability applies to your total metamagic level, not to each metamagic feat you apply to a spell.

An Extended, Maximized, Empowered Fireball takes a 7th-level slot ([3+2-1] + 3) rather than a 6th-level slot ([3-1] + [2-1] + 3).

Geomancer allows you to cast in armor, so that's pretty nice.

Even though I think it is better for sorcerers, archmage is a good choice for a wizard. And you still have time to qualify for it.

I wouldn't bother buying Tome & Blood. The Complete Arcane will be out in November and should be more worthwhile than T&B, b'c its updated for 3.5 and has three new classes.

Really? I always thought it applied to all feats, was this errata'd somewhere?

It really depends on what kind of wizard you are and how far you're willing to go for. A blaster mage will do well with elemental savant. Archmage is good. There's a ton others. What kind of wizard are you?

In general, going to ahve to go with the other posters... Incanatrix and Archmage are pretty nice. Dragon Disciple isn't too shiny, but there's a writeup of it in the SRD and the 3.5 DMG if you want to take a look at it.

The only thing I don't like about the Incantrix is that you have to specialize in Abjuration to become one. I would honestly wait and see what comes out in the Complete Arcane next month.

Incantator ;) is truly powerful, no doubt.

Archmage... a must.

Dont forget the Red Wizard, Greater Circle Leader is very powerful if you have the minions to really use its full power. Also the the constant School Focus is nice, great specialized caster.

I know some may dissagree, but a Mystic Theurge is able to become very handy at the highest levels. Divine backup is always nice when you have low hit points and all.

My 10 pints.

3.5 incantatrix did away with that requirement

I agree, though in practice all those forfeited schools do come back to haunt you, however your enemies WILL tremble once you get simulacrum.

As someone said it depends on what you want out of your mage.

I usually play know-it-alls So I usually Spec. as Diviners. The ultimate Prcs for me are Diviner5/Divine Oracle10/Loremaster5. At Epic finish the Loremaster, then maybe top it with Archmage.

Mage of the Arcane Order is pretty cool. I WOULD have said Incantatrix, but everybode else already did. Basically, ANY PrC that can get you some abilities and full caster progression is good...

Geomancer. You have to sacrifice three levels for the 2nd level divine spell req, but you can still get your 9th level spells. And don't underestimate the possibilities of Drift, or casting in armor.
