Hey I read in an issue of Dragon that you may get an advantage on your rolls if you set your dice on the top number when ur not playing... the argument is gravity will pull more of the die downward creating less weight on the top number... which would up the chances of getting it slightly...

Hmm. Sounds almost plausible.

Though if your dice are soft enough to melt downwards, then they're probably not soft enough to roll around the dinner table.

If you want better rolls, I suggest you roll your dice from a lower height, and practice doing so.
I'm not sure how effective it would be, but it might be possible to teach yourself how to instinctively hold and roll a dice in a way which gets you more twenties.

Then again, do you really want to expend so much effort to reduce the randomness of the game? The crushing ones and the roaring twenties are part of what make the game fun.
If you could roll a 20 on demand, wouldn't it be less exciting when you got that natural twenty which just got you over the chasm?

Sorry, I've diverged from the main question and turned it into a general criticism of trying to tinker with the odds. And I didn't even give a straight answer. @_@

I'm pretty sure I read the same thing, but it was in a letter or something about gaming superstitions. So I have to agree with Anodai.

It makes sense. It might tilt the odds in your favor slightly, but not enough to really matter.

I seriously doubt it. Glass does this, it flows downward incredibly slowly; windows in old houses are often thicker at the bottom than the top for this reason. But it takes decades to be noticeable.

Dice, even if they flow similarly, would probably flow similarly slowly; too slowly for you to notice a difference in the lifetime of the die.

If you're going to cheat, do it the right way. Try re-painting the lower numbers on your dice a few times, several coats. The added weight of the paint will tend to have that number down more often, and typically high numbers lie opposite them.
