04-28-06, 03:22 PM Okay, so I'm making a new character for a game and I've decided to make a binder. Actually the game is starting at level 9, and my character is a Warmage 3/Binder 3/Anima Mage 3. Thus far I've taken the following feats: Transdimensional Spell (metamagic, req'd for Anima Mage), Skilled Pact Making, Improved Binding, and Practiced Spellcaster (Warmage). This gives me:

Warmage ECL: 9
Binder EBL: 6
Adjusted EBL: 8 for vestiges I can bind (up to level 4)
Pact Making check: +14 (EBL 6 + 4 (for SPM feat) + 4 (CHA modifier).

So here's my question:

Can the Practiced Spellcaster feat be used with Pact Magic? Hypothetically, if I were able to take Practiced Spellcaster (Binder), this would give me an EBL of 9 for purposes of target saves, SR, and the effectiveness of my vestige abilities. If this is allowed, I'll probably be sacrificing Improved Binding for Practiced Spellcaster (Binder). I won't be able to bind level 4 vestiges anymore, but the abilities I get from the ones I CAN bind will be at my full character level. If this ISN'T allowed, is there any feat which lets one bolster ones supernatural abilities in a fashion similar to the way Practiced Spellcaster bolsters ECL?

While I'm on the subject, can Practiced Spellcaster be taken for Shadowcasters mysteries ,and/or Truenamers utterances? What about Warlock invocations?

Based on the way these different classes function, I would expect an 'official' answer to be "No, Practiced Spellcaster cannot be used to raise your EBL", but I don't see it as an unreasonable question/request. I would, however, expect it WOULD be allowed for mysteries, utterances and invocations. However, all these magics work differently than the 'standard' arcane/divine magic, so one can't be certain.

Lastly, can someone point me in the direction of an FAQ on Pact Magic, Shadow Magic, Truename Magic, and/or the Tome of Magic? Warlocks/Invocation would be handy, too. :D

I tried using the Forum FAQ, but I never got any results on anything I entered. If there is a better 'Search' function, PLEASE let me know.

04-29-06, 08:32 AM I don't see a problem with it, since it affects a set of mystical abilities going up nine levels. I don't see why everyone got so worked up about the "Practiced Manifester" feat, but that's for a different thread.

04-29-06, 08:52 AM If I was you i'd drop Skilled Pact Making. Making a bad pact only does two things: makes you show the sign, and be under the vestige's influence. Generally neither is much to worry about, so i'd drop that to pick up Practiced... Binder? Ofcourse if your DM doesn't let you do it then just go with what you posted.

04-29-06, 11:09 AM Do not take 3 levels of Binder! You can qualify by taking taking just 1 level and the Improved Binding feat. At *most* you should take only 2 levels of Binder (to be able to hide the signs) and this feat.

Practiced Spellcaster cannot be taken with Binding. The Pact Magic section has it's own feats for boosting binding abilities all of which are much weaker than Practiced Spellcaster ... and I'm thinking that they did this deliberately.

As a Warmage you should have a massive Cha score so Skilled Pact Making, while useful, isn't nearly as good as some other feats you could be taking. For an Anima Mage this is more useful for the Wizard / Binders.
