| Nephelim01-07-08, 02:58 PM | This is a question that could be posed in any one of a number of places, so if it needs to go somewhere else, I heartily apologize. Premises: Karsites can not cast spells of any kind. Binders can Soulbind to Karsus, who lets them use Spell-trigger devices as though they were Wizards of their Effective Binder Level. Runestaffs let a Wizard "burn" spell-slots on powering the staff, rather than containing charges themselves. Supposition: Can a Karsite Binder, bound to Karsus, use a Runestaff? I would suggest that they could, but that they only have as many spell-slots as a Wizard would at that level. ... or not. Opinions? |
| InkBlot01-07-08, 04:06 PM | A Karsite could use a rune staff, but she would need the spell slots to power it. She would have to actually have levels in a casting class to get those slots. There's nothing preventing her from taking levels in, say, Sorcerer. She just can't cast her spells. The Tome Of Magic actually says this outright; a Karsite can take levels in a spellcasting class but may not cast spells granted by that class. I suppose a Karsite Ranger who took some Binder levels could bind Karsus and use a runestaff to "cast" Wizard spells. I'll have to double-check the MiC. edit: Double-checked, and runestaffs only work for arcane spells. So a Karsite Hexblade/Binder could use a runestaff while bound to Karsus. edit the second: Nothing I see says that Runestaffs are spell-trigger items. They won't work with Karsus at all unless they're spell-trigger items. |
