Binder Love [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-12-07, 04:15 PM Just curious, I don't see a lot of support for the Binder (out of ToM's Pact Magic section). Is this due to the fact that Binders aren't good, or am I just missing all the binder threads?

(I just picked up ToM the other day, and it, alongside ToB, is one of my favorite splatbooks yet)

06-12-07, 04:33 PM I think it's because Binders are kind of flat, though perfectly fine (skill monkeys are always useful), and thus, no one feels much like supporting them.

I think some people sometimes post new Vestiges in the spell forum.

06-12-07, 04:47 PM Actually the big problem is that vestiges are rather difficult to properly make. They don't really have a set formula, there are some new ones in several web enhancements as well as Dragon magic and an issue of Dragon magazine.

True, but that doesn't much stop people from making spells, does it?

Well, spells have something to compare themselves against, so I suppose vestiges are a little more challenging, but I don't believe that can explain ALL of the lack of support for the binder.

Warlocks also went for over a year with no support, the reason is similar, all day magical abilities are difficult to properly balance. The binder also has the challenge of stacking abilities since they can have multiple vestiges simultaneously. You'll notice we also see very little shadowcaster or truenamer support, the reason is fairly similar. Supplimental material with entirely new rulesets tends to take longer to get added in for support, the warlock is getting decent support now, not great but decent. If given enough time I am confident the binder will also get needed support, or we have a new edition.

Therefore they like bards: not the essential part of the party.
Don't get me wrong, I like them.

06-12-07, 09:06 PM A point to make, if a bit off topic: I'm currently playing in a gestalt game with two other people (one dm, another player) and it has come to my attention that Binder + Warlock = amazingly fun, thematic goodness.

And yes, I do realize the wonderful Naberius + hellfire warlock maddness, and I plan to exploit it for all it's worth.
