| MysteryGilgamesh06-21-06, 06:41 PM | In the ability description of the Chupoclops vestige (as well as the flavor text), it says the summoner gains a poison bite... Well, it has rules for the bite attack...But where is the poison? The ability is even listed as "Poison bite"...Can someone list what the poison does, please? |
| MysteryGilgamesh06-22-06, 12:05 PM | Bump... Uh...Lil' help? Someone? Anyone? |
| Richmud06-22-06, 04:07 PM | Oddly enough the posion bite ability does not posion people. There seems to have been multiple cases in the book where abilities were changed without all the descriptor text being altered |
| MysteryGilgamesh06-22-06, 05:46 PM | Are you certain? Thats...Quite a big mistake then, considering it's even in the flavor text of the Chupo entry. It also makes me wonder why they'd even bother, as a 1d4 bite certaintly isn't anything to write home around. X_x |
| Otto the Bugbear06-22-06, 05:54 PM | I'm away from my book, but I'm pretty sure Chupo isn't the only one that got that treatment. Seems like the description was written up, then when the abilities were added, they whittled out some. Just so happens that someone didn't go back and edit. Cheers Otto :) |

Despite the fact that poisons are far more useful for NPCs and monsters (because normally PCs adversaries are dead well before the secondary effect kicks in), there is a lot of resistance to giving PCs poison abilities. Eurynome grants poison blood...a wimpy poison that you can't even use offensively in most cases (oooh, d6 damage! Scary!). But they've also created this exhalted feat that gives you an awesome unlimited poison touch, oh sorry, not poison but a ravage that is exactly like a poison except you can only use it on not-good things. They've decided in the BoVD that poison is evil...even though there are several good creatures, including lawful good outsiders with poison (Coatl). Granted, an unlimited use of Con poison is something I'd try to avoid giving a PC; how about a low STR poison for Chupoclops' bite? I think strength poison is the weakest of all the stats to affect, as so many monsters have incredibly high strength scores. You could have something that scales, like 1 point of STR that goes to 1d2, 1d3, up to 1d4. Another option would be a powerful poison that only takes effect on a critical. |
