| Joush Mark10-17-06, 10:57 PM | I'v played them, and found them to work okay.. though there spellcasting is odd they are still a decent class for a few builds. I certanly like the Feindish Servent abilty, as much for roleplaying options as anything else. Oh, and it's Blackguard. One word. As far as types? My favort by far was the vary civlized Drow in a underdark/evil politcal game that enjoyed collecting female moon elves and kept a sap, net and mantciles in her backpack at all times in case the oppertiny presents itself to expand her collection. She was evil but not the mindless, puppy kicking evil most people expect and fit in well in the game. Worth noteing that the build is pretty suboptimonal. Drow Blackguard might be fun for roleplaying, but not for power playing. |

Versus spells & spell-likes, double dipping your CH is rather good. If you want to go the drow route as already suggested, add in Justicar (Underdark). It gain a +3 profane bonus to all saves (2nd lvl) and gains a 1/day pseudo-smite at 1st that does 2d6 CN damage (save for half). Combined with the Empower Supernatural Ability feat (Tome of Magic), it net turns you into a save god with a one trick wonder 1/day. I actually did play this build in an upper level campaign. From a saves standpoint, it was amazing. But some much of the character was invested into getting good saves that it left little rather for any other neat tricks. Though the one time the Empowered CN smite maxed out to a net 18 CN and the opposition auto-failed, it was priceless to see the GM's face. |
| runestar10-18-06, 09:11 AM | I have never tried one, though if I would play 1, I probably won't go more than 4 lvs, that's where most of the good stuff are frontloaded(2nd lv - dark blessing, 3rd lv - despair aura, 4th lv - sneak attack, use in tandem with craven).:) Combine with the evil paladin variants in UA...:P |
| Echo_that_Pains10-18-06, 09:57 AM | The Fiendish Servant ability is very nice as well and worth getting. |
