| Geraturatu05-06-07, 03:09 PM | The sorcerer and wizard alredy cover all the Black mages bases. |
| Frylord05-06-07, 03:12 PM | How many times has someone asked about this in the past MONTH? Read the archives, people. |
| Galahdeon05-06-07, 04:18 PM | I know, i asked about it two weeks ago but then again it is a new month so new questions. well one thing i was thinking about was starting with the base class being wu jen, then start on a PrC that would add destruction using the available elements. would anyone know of a good destruction PrC, other than that if it does not exist then i might have to work on it. |
| Midnight_v05-06-07, 08:34 PM | You know maybe you should ask the optimizartion boards... |

| Nathreet05-06-07, 08:53 PM | True, the sorceror does cover the BM. But you could make some slight adjustments to the sorc to fit the BM: Spell known: always 3/level. No 0th level spells. This improves him at lower levels but weakens him at higher levels. Spells may be learned from a spellbook or scrolls. Once he picks a spell, he cannot change it, but he may pick the 3 at his leisure. Unlike the sorc he does not automatically get these spells when he gains a level. spells per day: same as sorc one level higher than him (similar to wizard). That balances out his other disadvantages. other: no familar, no scribe scroll, no bonus feats, no school specialization. The rest is same as wizard (which, without the wizard stuff mentioned, is another disadvantage compared to sorc). |
| RgAgsThMch05-06-07, 11:30 PM | an "othentic" black mage would start with three spells: fireball (fire), lightning bolt (thunder), and something like cone of cold only as a ranged area effect like fireball (blizzard). each would be usable a certain number of times per day that increases with lvl. (i'm not doing the balancing for this) at a certain lvl, the power of each spell would increase (dam., range, area...) and they'd become fira, thundara, blizzara. another upgrade at some other lvl. (firaga, thundaga, blizzaga) meanwhile, throw in some special (FF) abilities like geomancy (decreases opponents elemental resistance by some factor) and return magic (reflects spell back against caster [only if you're actually hit by spell {though you don't necessarily need to take damage <i love parentheses>}])! it's a start. |
| Nadaka05-07-07, 12:07 AM | Sorcerer focusing on evocations or a warmage. The sorcerer is more flexible than the black mage, but if you pick mostly evocations, the same flavor is retained. |
| teshen05-07-07, 02:16 AM | I'm thinking more a psion kineticist... A lot of the powers in that vein are easily augmentable, meaning a low level fire power can be boosted until it is akin to a higher level casting all through you levels. A few of the powers have energy types that are chosen when manifest, so one power can be a 'fireball,' a 'thunder', or an 'ice.' |
