I'm considering playing a blackguard for the first time, does anyone have any tips or anything?

What level are you starting at? If you have the chance, make him an ex-paladin, way cool RP value in that. Thats about all I got though, never played a blackguard, or seen one played, but I plan on having a (currently paladin) NPC go blackguard in the not-so-distant future.

Starting at either 1st or 2nd level, see it's not the usual pretige class blackguard but one of three special blackguard classes.

So what you're using Dragon 312 then?

If u want to play a Black Guard I would suggest you to specialize in Mounted combat.

Buy your mount horseshoes of speed, for doubling its 50 ft, and often cast bull strengh on your hero. ( cuz your mount share this spell due to the fact that it won't move more than 5 ft away from you)
Use ride by attack to charge the insane 220 foot your mount can do with its speed horseshoes and a "spur mount" DC 15 ride check. Most enemies won't be aware of you and you can easily take em down either by using the spirited charge feat and/or simply using your sneak attack ability.

Btw: Am I right, that in melee combat my mount can do a full attack when its my turn and I am doing it either ?
I've argued several times with my DM about this point because he says only me or only my mount can attack.

Idea with Mounted Black Guard:
I've also thought about buying a "flesgrinding" [+2 ability, descript in Book of VIle darkness] weapon, charging at an enemy, hit him with this weapon an activate the Flesgrind, meaning the weapon stays grinding in his body and does its damage for 5 rounds, exept he succeds a strengh check DC 20 to pull this weapon out of his body.
While charging I would use the ride by attack, means leaving his threaten range in the same round.
With the quick draw feat i can pull out another weapon as a free action, charge at this opponent the next round and attack him while he is still under the effect of my flesgrinding weapon.
If he then decides to pull out this weapon he provokes an attack of opportunity from me.

What do u think of this ?

Wow, thanks for that.

It's actually the despot class.
