Yeah, if you're talking about a Final Fantasy black mage (the only black mage that comes to my mind), then I'd say your best bet is evoker (wizard spescializing in evocation).

04-23-07, 01:37 PM If its the FF Blackmage you're after, then the Wizard already has you covered. It can do everything a FF blackmage can, and then some.

I'm not sure what you meant there, but you seem to be upset about all of the wizard/warmage suggestions? What type of features are you looking for? :D

"althintik" = authentic? Again, what types of features do you want it to have. If you're talking about a FF black mage, that was (about as close as it gets) a standard wizard. For that matter, which FF game are you talking about?

Agreed. However, warmage, with it's sudden metamagics and boat load of evocation and damaging conjuration really suite the feel. Use the variant feature out of Complete Mage that let's you pick up spells out of other schools of magic and snag a few transmutation spells to turn your enemies into frogs...

Now just sub in an insanity effect for looking at the character's face instead of armor and you're probably good. :D

I'm already a pokemon, so the wizard's spell fails. Raichus FTW.
Pokemon don't have any particular immunity to polymorph spells... so :pbbbtt:... you'd still be a mudkip.

I, on the other hand, made my saving throw. :D

Now, if that is what I think it is, you just sodomized the English language with the equivalent of a spiked rubber chicken. Congrats.

I've seen a few black mage variants come and go, but as a FF-newb I can't say how good they are or even what happened to them. However, if you want blasting, any of the evoker/sorcerer/warmage/wu jen can do, particularly with the right PrC. Yes, it may take some artistic license, but it's a bloody conversion. You can, of course, simply try to convert FF spells into D20, I think quite a few people here might help with ideas.

If you insist on making your powers spell-like, a warlock or dragonfire adept (ok, might need some renaming) could also work. Taking some form for energy substitution for your blast would be nice.
