| supernerd891604-22-06, 09:48 AM | i dont like how he obtains feats through his dex modifier. Just give him an extra feat at first level. It seems a bit flavorless, and you didn't use the popular format. |
| Aniona_Amakiir04-22-06, 10:03 AM | Congratulations you have created the ultimate one level dip as well as the most abusable class ever! If i was say a elven rogue with maxed dexterity i could take this class at first or sencond level and then i would get 2 bonus feats, ability to use dexterity instead of strength (i assume that this is what mega weapon finesse does) and i would qualify for any feat there is... And i could even go for yet another level in it and get automatic sneak attack with no miss chance (screw dexterity bonus to damage, i sneak attack!) and also the abiloty to automatically score critical hits (fear my pickwielding rogue!). And if you say that i cant sneak attack because im not flanking then ill just grab a third level and use my constantly summoned swordcompanion to flank any opponent for me (or i go for 5 levels of invisible blade)! Here comes a perfect example of this class extreme abusability: Mike the human rogue 3/sword master 2/invisible blade 5, Mike has 18 dexterity, meaning that he gets 2 bonus feats from sword master, which combined with his human bonus feat gives him 7 feats. He has far shot, point blank shot (both needed for IB), weapon focus (dagger), weapon specialization (dagger), improved critical (dagger), two weapon fighting and improved two weapon fighting. He has maxed out his bluff skill and bought an item that gives him +10 in it, which combined with his 14 charisma gives a total modifier of +23. Mike has +14/+9 to hit with both his +2 daggers meaning that he will hit AC 10 (which all hes opponents has because of piercing blow) 95 % of the time. On these hits Mike deals 1d4+2+5d6 damage, which gives him an average damage of 88 damage per round against any opponent indepednetly of what AC that it has, which is insane It should also be noted that a level 20 pixie (ECL 24) who has maxxed out her dexterity score would get 13 (!!!) Bonus feats for one level in this class... Im not going to comment this class in any other way simply because there is no use, its horribly written, completely without flavour or even logic and it is clear that this class was created for a single purpose; to get as many neat abilities as possible into one class. I should also be noted that there are two types of saves in DnD; one good (2+ 1/2 level) and one bad (1/3 level). This class gets one at 1/2 level, which is good, one at 3/4 level, which is insane, and one at full level, which is so unbalanced it becomes silly. |
| Rim-Soulfang04-22-06, 11:55 AM | And what the heck is this? Class skills: first level: (5+int modifier)X5 every other level: (5+int modifier)+5.No, no, no! Wrong, wrong, wrong! Did you even read the rulebooks? You always without exception gain quadruple (x4) skillpoints at first level. And what are those extra 5 points on every level except the first? |
| EjoThims04-22-06, 12:14 PM | I'd like to be nice, but... As horribly, horribly bad as this class it, at least SOME good will come of it... Everyone else designing custom classes now have a perfect example of what not to do. |
| buddy403104-22-06, 03:01 PM | im so sorry....all i wanted to do was somwthing in my free time.sorry to upset you all i am going to fix this class. i'm new to DnD and i only have the monster manual and the players handbook. if you would tell me all the mistakes i made, i will fix it. |
| supernerd891604-22-06, 03:57 PM | dont worry, being new to D&D isnt a crime. forgive the others, their just flaming. It certainly could use some work, a new name and such but that doesnt mean it will never be good. click here (http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/home.htmlhtm) for the system reference documents. it has all the info you need. Edit: here (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?t=623341htm) is some help on how to format this ( i know its for PrC, but it should help nonetheless) and good luck :) |
| buddy403104-22-06, 04:11 PM | i tryed to go thier but it got 404ed. |
| buddy403104-22-06, 04:20 PM | changed name from sword master to blade dancer, hopfully for the better |
| supernerd891604-22-06, 04:20 PM | http://www.systemreferencedocuments.org/35/sovelior_sage/home.html try this |
| supernerd891604-22-06, 04:21 PM | it still says sword master onthe title |
| Aniona_Amakiir04-22-06, 06:30 PM | Im still not going to comment this class because of earlier stated reaseons. I will hovwever say that it is ok to create a class such as this, once or twice. Youre new and its normal that you do not know everything yet. My tip is that you spend some time at these boards and looking through PrCs in various DnD books, and then go for an attempt to create one of your own. Also borrowing a few abilities from other classes is a nice idea when youre not sure about how to balance things out, as long as the entire class doesnt consist of borrows. A good way to check the balance of a class is to find one with similar concept, look bpth of em over and ask yourself which class you would pick if you were a powergamer. When you get a bit more confident you can instead take the PrC you have created and try to come up with an as powerful build as possible using it. I wish you good luck in your future of PrCmaking and wholeheartly pray that you leave this class for the monster it is, since it is a lot easier to start anew then to salvage a sinking wreckage. |
| supernerd891604-22-06, 06:44 PM | huh. Thats slightly better than what you said about my PrC. except that last part of course. in the end, its your call buddy. however, amakiir is right. It can be much easier to rebuild something from the ground up than renovating. And to tell you the truth, this isn't all that original of an idea. check out Jaerom Darkwinds Martial Artist core class. It's a good representation of a popular idea. |
| Mythrignoc04-22-06, 07:49 PM | I'm going to agree with the above first few statements, but say it in a nicer tone, this class does need work. The first level is easily a CR 2, and no character should be that when starting out. Why do they have proficiencies if they get a mind blade? That doesn't make sense. There's a reason critical hit is chance. It's as said, a CRITICAL, meaning not likely to happen 10 times a day lest you have a keen rapier with improved critical and are using 3.0 rules. (3.5 rules don't let keen and improved crit stack). The saving throws. I've always been biased about this, I believe that X should start at 2 and X should start at 0. None of them should have a start 1 with their own progression, but that's just me. Dual weild double bladed swords. You're basically turning the class into that Abomination in the epic handbook that starts with an H, forget the name, but it seems as if you're just trying for mutliple attacks. I would suggest getting complete warrior or if you have it already, look over the Dervish. The dervish is a really nice class for this sort of thing, more attacks and such. It may be a bit overpowerd IMO, but it's still something to base this class off of. |
| Priest_of_Shaundakul04-22-06, 08:01 PM | Is this the Dervish's evil twin? |
| supernerd891604-22-06, 11:54 PM | i thought i was being nice |
