Game Rule Information
Bladecallers have the following game statistics.

Alignment - Any.
Hit Die - D10

Class Skills
The Bladecaller's class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Autohypnosis (Wis), Climb (Str), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Hide (Dex), Jump (Str), Knowledge (Psionics) (Int), Listen (Wis), Move Silently (Dex), Profession (Wis), Spot (Wis), and Tumble (Dex)

Class Features
All of the following are class features of the Bladecaller.

Weapon and Armour Proficienies
Bladecallers are proficient with all simple weapons. That's it.

Power Points/Day
A Bladecaller’s ability to manifest powers is limited by the power points she has available. Her base daily allotment of power points is given in the table. In addition, she receives bonus power points per day if she has a high Charisma score. Her race may also provide bonus power points per day, as may certain feats and items.

Powers Known
A Bladecaller begins play knowing two Bladecaller powers of your choice. Each time she achieves certain levels, she unlocks the knowledge of a new power.

Choose the powers known from the Bladecaller power list. (Exception: The feats Expanded Knowledge and Epic Expanded Knowledge do allow a Bladecaller to learn powers from the lists of other classes.) A Bladecaller can manifest any power that has a power point cost equal to or lower than her manifester level.

The total number of powers a Bladecaller can manifest in a day is limited only by her daily power points.

When manifesting a power, the Bladecaller does incur the arcane failure chance for medium and heavy armour.

A Bladecaller simply knows her powers; they are ingrained in her mind. She does not need to prepare them (in the way that some spellcasters prepare their spells), though she must get a good night’s sleep each day to regain all her spent power points.

The Difficulty Class for saving throws against Bladecaller powers is 10 + the power’s level + the Bladecaller’s Charisma modifier.

Maximum Power Level Known
A Bladecaller begins play with the ability to learn 1st-level powers. As she attains higher levels, she may gain the ability to master more complex powers.

To learn or manifest a power, a Bladecaller must have a Charisma score of at least 10 + the power’s level.

Chosen Weapons
At 1st level, the Bladecaller chooses 2 simple or martial weapons, or 1 exotic weapon. She is considered proficient with those weapons; and thereafter, any class feature that makes a reference to chosen weapons is referring to them.

Quick Calling
When using the Call Weaponry power to call her chosen weapon, the Bladecaller may manifest it as an immediate action. If not being augmented, this manifestation costs no power points. She is considered to threaten any squares she can threaten with a called weapon, even when unarmed, but only for the purposes of making attacks of opportunity (ie. she summons a weapon and immediately makes the attack of opportunity with it).

Fighter Training
At 3rd level, the Bladecaller is treated as having a Fighter level equal to her class level minus 2, for the purpose of meeting feat prerequisites.

Bonus Feats
At 4th, 13th, and 17th level, the Bladecaller gains a bonus feat. There is no defined list for the bonus feats, and they change depending on her chosen weapons. As a general rule, any feat that can only apply to a single weapon can be taken as a bonus feat. Any feat that applies to the Bladecaller's chosen weapon - but not to all melee weapons or all ranged weapons - may be taken. Also, if her chosen weapon gives a bonus to any special combat manoeuvres such as disarm or trip, then feats tied to those manoeuvres may be selected as bonus feats. All feat choices are subject to DM approval.

Focus
At 5th level, the Bladecaller gains a +1 bonus to attack with her chosen weapons. This bonus scales up as she advances, and is equal to her class level divided by 8, minimum 1.

Versatile Calling
When using the Call Weaponry power to call her chosen weapon, the Bladecaller may choose to convert part of the numeric enhancement bonus into special properties of the same value. For instance, if she called a +3 longsword, she could instead have called a +2 keen longsword, or a +1 keen flaming longsword, or even a +1 holy longsword. If this ability is used, the weapon must always have at least a +1 enhancement bonus left.

Specialization
At 8th level, the Bladecaller gains a +1 bonus to damage with her chosen weapons. This bonus scales up as she advances, and is equal to her class level divided by 5, minimum 1.

Recurrant Calling
When using the Call Weaponry power to call her chosen weapon, the Bladecaller may choose to summon a weapon with the exact same properties as the last time she used the power. If she does, then this manifestation costs no power points.

Quick Buffs
The Bladecaller may manifest any number of powers from the Blade Caller power list with a range of "you" simultaneously as a standard action.

Advanced Calling
When using the Call Weaponry power to call her chosen weapon, the Bladecaller may augment the power for an additional 3 points per +1 enhancement, instead of the normal 4 points.

Greater Calling
When using the Call Weaponry power to call her chosen weapon, the Bladecaller may augment the power for an additional 2 points per +1 enhancement, instead of the normal 4 points.

Mastery
While wielding her chosen weapon, the Blademaster gains a +4 bonus on all bull rush, disarm, feint, grapple, overrun, sunder, and trip rolls when her weapon is involved.

And that's about it... comments/criticism/suggestions??

Wow... 2 days and no responses. Either it's perfectly balanced, or nobody feels like reading it all the way through.

In either case, I guess a little bump won't hurt :bump:

Interesting idea, I like the picture...
but I have a few questions:
1. How do you determine what you called. You mentioned calling a lv. 3 longsword but I haven't seen anything that says you can do that.
2. In looking at the picture, I reminded of Tenchi Muyo, where Tenchi had to channel his energy into a swordhilt to generate the blade. The girl in the picture seems to be doing that. Is a medium need?
3.out of curiosity, is this based on the mind blade?

1. The Call Weaponry power is what allows you to create a weapon. It has an augmentation cost that allows you to put an enhancement bonus on the weapon.

2. No medium is needed. The weapon simply appears.

3. It is loosely based on the Mind Blade. This was created in response to someone asking for a gish that has a Mind Blade twist to it.

So maybe this should be a class feature instead of a power? maybe no cost but the augmentation?
LordPendragon

Quick Calling states that it is free to manifest Call Weaponry unless it is being augmented.
Seerow

1) There should be a class feature that halves the cost on augmenting the weapon. If you wanted it to be similar to a Soulknife, the Soulknife gets a +9 weapon at all times, you have here a maximum of +5 (though I suppose your specialization bonuses sort of make up for this?)
2) No expansion on a gish? Especially one with bonuses to bullrushing and disarm? =(
3) Buffs as a free action... wow. That's all I have to say about that.
LordPendragon

07-27-06, 06:22 PM
1. Are you guys actually reading the full class?? That ability's already there.

2. Right. No Enlarge, because that would be pretty sick when added to your 3rd concern.

3. Right. Since she is not proficient with armour, or really anything, she needs the buffs quickly to be able to fight effectively. Also, many of her buffs will just be overlapping common magic items she should have; such as Ring of Protection +4. Also take into account that they are a free action, not an immediate action, so she still gets rocked in a surprise round.
Seerow

07-27-06, 06:30 PM
1) Oops, you're right. I missed Advanced and Greater Calling. My bad =P

2) Point. What about Strength of My Enemy? It doesn't seem like it'd be too strong with the quick buffing.
LordPendragon

Yeah, it probably wouldn't be overbearingly powerful if I included it, but the entire spell list is currently comprised of defensive buffs, and straight-up weapon enhancers; nothing sneaky like poison or ability drain.

I'm thinking of inserting a clause stating that she cannot learn new powers in any way unless she also takes levels in another psionic class. Otherwise a savvy player could just use a feat slot to put Expansion on their list.

Although that would put them down a feat slot... sigh... so many options.

Cmon, this one's simple. Buff as it currently appears:

Quick Buffs
The Bladecaller may manifest any power with a range of "you" as a free action.

Buff that would eliminate any loopholes:

Quick Buffs
The Bladecaller may manifest any power from the Blade Caller power list with a range of "you" as a free action.

Durrrh... I suck.

Thanks :D

If Quick Buffs is slightly overpowered, the other option is to make it "can cast any number of buffs from the class list as a single standard action" or even a move action, if standard isn't good enough.

Also... do psionics incur an arcane failure chance?? I was never clear on that point...
LordPendragon

07-27-06, 09:21 PM
Alright, changes...

Changed the implementation of Quick Buffs after realizing that Dimension Slide has a target entry of "you".
Seerow

07-27-06, 09:40 PM
No, Psionics don't suffer from spell failure. That's Arcane exclusive.

O_O'' Sorry dude. Read but didn't click in my mind...

On to next question: Is there A limit on how long the weapon stays? My PHB and Ex Psi HB are on loan to somebody so I can't check...
LordPendragon

07-28-06, 01:11 AM
Hmmm... that will be problematic... a little dip into Fighter and our unassuming Bladecaller turns into a walking tank thanks to things like Biofeedback and Inertial Barrier.

I'm going to go against type here, and make arcane spell failure apply in everything except light armour. This makes sense since the class skill list just screams "freedom of movement" as part of this class' style.

so at lvl 9 its +2?

Call Weaponry
i think you should make this an ability

Powers Known
maybe make this added by some ability like intel or something

hope this helps

LordPendragon

Focus - No, it goes up to +2 at level 16 (16/8 = 2).

Call Weaponry - It is an ability... kind of... I suppose I could make it a psi-like or even supernatural ability that mimics the power. I don't see the reason to do so, though... is there any compelling reason why it shouldn't just be left as another power on their list??

Powers Known - As per standard psionics rules, the powers known are not affected, but she does gain extra power points based on her Cha score.

ok because that’s not on there.

well at lvl 1 with +2 car mod they get basically 3 abilities instead of 4 and depending on the points it tacks(guessing 1) because thay have to sacrifice 1 ability for the sword they can only summon a sword about 2 a day if not a bit more maybe 4 and that’s not worth anything.
i think the sword should have a round limit, be an ability, and only be able to summon in battle

that seams more friendly to me
LordPendragon

It does have a time limit, as per the power.

And I'm not sure if you're just skimming through the features or what, but it plainly states in Quick Calling that it is free to manifest the Call Weaponry power unless you augment it. She can call as many normal weapons as she wants (as long as they are chosen weapons).

with [] instead of <>

You have to get the spacing just right, so it takes a bit of work, but it's easy enough to figure out.

The best way to get the right spacing is to do your table in notepad first, and then copy/paste it. Notepad treats all character as the exact same width, so it looks just like it will when it's posted.

Feel free to quote my table and then just copy it.

Not always. Some people change the font on their notepad so it's still all messed up.

Admittedly people who do tend to not be very bright, but they do exist.

Yes, there is a 10 minute/level limit on duration, and it also dissipates if you put it down for more than 2 rounds.

LordPendragon

It's easier to implement this way, and doesn't require extreme fluffing to make it believable. This way, the class is simply a psionic who specialized in the Call Weaponry power, and in using the weapons she calls.

Besides, why bother making a class feature to do it when there's already a power that does exactly what I want (and is actually what inspired this class).
