| Geraturatu11-12-07, 01:43 PM | Please comment on this PrC. Blademaster Hit Die: d10 Requirements: Base Attack Bonus: +8 Skills: Craft (Weapon) 12, Intimidate 8 Feats: Combat Reflexes, Great Cleave, Quick Draw, Weapon Finesse, Weapon Specialization (any slashing weapon) Special: A Blademaster must help you create your first Ascendant Blade (see below). Class Skills: The Blademaster's class skills are the same as the fighter. Skill points per level: 2 + Int modifier Level Base Attack Fort Reflex Will Special 1 +1 +0 +2 +0 Craft Ascendant Blade, Fame/Infamy, Great Finesse 2 +2 +0 +3 +0 Supreme Cleave, Supreme Reflexes 3 +3 +1 +3 +1 Whirlwind Attack 4 +4 +1 +4 +1 Master Critical 5 +5 +1 +4 +1 Improved Ascendant Blade 6 +6 +2 +5 +2 Supreme Whirlwind Attack 7 +7 +2 +5 +2 Improved Ascendant Blade 8 +8 +2 +6 +2 Master Critical 9 +9 +3 +6 +3 Critical Limit, Improved Ascendant Blade 10 +10 +3 +7 +3 Deities Blade Craft Ascendant Blade: At first level, this weapon will have been crafted for you by another Blademaster. The type of weapon this is is the same type as theone in which you took Weapon Specialization. For any non Blademaster, this sword is a Masterwork Weapon. For a Blademaster, it is a +2 weapon. At 3rd level, and every three afterward, the enhancement goes up by 1, until at 9th it is a +5 weapon. Should this be lost or destroyed, you can craft another one by spending three days meditating with a masterwork weapon of the same type. You may only have two of these weapons at any one time. Fame/Infamy: You have either become known far and wide for your great deeds, or your horrid crimes. If good, you gain a +1 to Diplomacy against all non-evil creatures, and a +1 to intimidate against evil creatures. If evil, you gain a +2 to intimidate checks. If nuetral, you can choose between these two. You do not gain these benefits against any creature who has an intelligence of 5 or less. At 5th level these bonuses double. At 10th level, each beneifit goes up by +1. Great Finesse: Weapon Finesse applies to wahtever weapon you took Weapon Specialization in, unless it's a two-handed weapon. Supreme Cleave: As Great Cleave, except you can make a 5 foot step between each attack. Supreme Reflexes: As Combat Reflexes, except there is no limit to your Attacks of Opportunity. Whirlwind Attack: You gain Whirlwind Attack as a bonus feat at 3rd level. Master Critical: At 4th level, you can choose to increase the threat of a critical, or to increase the multiplier for the weapon you have Weapon Specialization with. The threat increase will double the threat range as Improved Critical or the Keen property, if one of these are already had, it is now x3 of what is normal instead of x2. If the multiplier is increased, whatever the normal multiplier of the chosen weapon is, it then goes up by 1. At level 8, the other option is gained. Improved Ascendant Blade: At Fifth Level, your weapon gains extra power. It can now get a melee weapon Special ability such as Flaming, or Flaming Burst. You can spend a + 5 bonus on this (thus, you can get any of the abilities listed in the Dm's guide). At 7th level, you gain another, except it has 5 - the points spent at 5th. Again at 9th level. If you use a cumilitive of five points before you get to 9th (or seventh if you got a plus 5 ability), then you do not gain another ability. Supreme Whirlwind Attack: As Whirlwind Attack, except you can use feats such as Cleave or Great Cleave at 6th level. Critical Limit: The only way you can advance to the 10th level of this class is if you select it as your 20th class level. Deities Blade: Your Ascendants Blade is now a Deities Blade. It has become a major artifact in the hands of a 10th level. The enchantment bonus goes up by +1, and you get to choose from a ability (the dm can make diffrent ones at his own discretion): I'll have some of these later. trying to finish it up. |
| Hanzo18711-12-07, 02:10 PM | Since the class is incomplete, I won't judge your abilities, but I have to tell you, this class has to be 5 levels, not 10. Since the martial classes have to be Lv. 15 to take this, only the first 5 levels would be beneficial because characters' Base Saves and Base Attack Bonuses don't increase after 20th level. Add to the fact that you need Craft Magic Arms and Armor, which requires you to dabble in Wizard or any other spellcaster to get your 5 caster levels, and you've got a class that's next to impossible to take. I'm sorry, but right now, nobody could hope to get into this class. Since your PrC concentrates on blade combat, I'd suggest knocking down the BAB requirement A LOT, say +6 or +8 and get rid of Craft Magic Arms and Armor and Improved Critical. With these lessened Pre-reqs, taking the class is possible at the very least, but you still need to make many more changes. Try getting rid of needing Greater TWF and make it a bonus Feat or something. Right now, it doesn't work, but with work, it'll have potential. Good luck. |
| Geraturatu11-12-07, 02:37 PM | Ok, thank you. I did forget the special requirement, but I'll put it in later. |
| Leaflitter11-12-07, 07:06 PM | wellp the names nice. good job:ayyyy!: |
| Dog_O_War11-12-07, 07:19 PM | You'll have to rename this one I'm afraid. They did this one and the Dwarven Thane, based off of Warcraft 3 in a dragon magazine a few years ago. |
| Leaflitter11-12-07, 10:44 PM | NOOOO!!! not the name thats all that was going for this class nooooooo :noway: :tantrum: :nonono: |
| vorpo11-13-07, 07:24 AM | You'll have to rename this one I'm afraid. They did this one and the Dwarven Thane, based off of Warcraft 3 in a dragon magazine a few years ago. Who cares? How many ninjas do you think are out there? Why don't you post in each of them saying that ninja is taken...? |
| runestar11-13-07, 08:10 AM | In theory, you just need 1 lv of spellcaster, since you can take practiced spellcaster to bump its caster lv up to 5, thus meeting the prereqs for craft arms and armour. Though it seems like a waste. Unless you are trying to replicate the blademaster class from warcraft3, and want spellcasting for invis and mirror image (I assume the prc might improve spellcasting in some way), though it might be better to just grant them as SLAs from the prc. I don't understand Hanzo187's comment about being unable to enter it before lv15. A fighter8/wiz1 can take the prc at 10th lv with practiced spellcaster. |

There is nothing about spellcasting that I can see. Hanzo's comment was pointed toward the OP BEFORE he edited it. So it wouldn't make sense when you see it now. |
| runestar11-13-07, 09:31 AM | First, what spellcaster? There is nothing about spellcasting that I can see. You need a caster lv of 5 to qualify for craft magic arms and armour, which is one of the feat prereqs. At the same time, I fail to see the significance of weapon finesse. This seems to make the prc bent towards rapiers and courtblades. |
| Cartigan11-13-07, 10:10 AM | You'll have to rename this one I'm afraid. They did this one and the Dwarven Thane, based off of Warcraft 3 in a dragon magazine a few years ago. Actually that was Orc Blademaster... This class is obviously designed for the Fighter, but Craft Magic Arms and Armor breaks it. And how many slashing weapons are finessable? |
| goawayugh11-13-07, 10:22 AM | While it is nearly impossible to comment on a class where you still have yet to add in the special abilities, I'll try. There are way too many feat requirements, and they don't really make sense. You have Great Cleave listed, which means that you will also need Power Attack and Cleave (as those are prereqs for Great Cleave). Without Practiced Spellcaster, you will need to be a Fighter 8/ (spellcaster) 5 to enter this 10 level PrC. Plus, Power Attack, Cleave, and Great Cleave don't generally go along with Weapon Finesse and Combat Reflexes as the former feats are most useful with 2-handed weapons, and the later are best utilized by high Dex fighters. |
| Geraturatu11-14-07, 10:14 PM | Alright, the short time since I've put this on it's already gotten out of control. -The Craft Magic Arms and Armor is since they're supposed to make a special type of weapon. -I could change Great Cleave to a bonus feat. -This class is supposed to be supremely fast and dangerous. -The requirments are meant to be hard since this class has a lot going into it (once I get the abilities up) -Many more points that I'm too lazy to make. You'll see a few of the things as soon as I finish editing it. Sorry, tight schedule. |
| vorpo11-14-07, 10:44 PM | I'd suggest you gain the special weapon somehow but not by the Craft Magic Arms and Armors feat. If there is only one specific single special weapon that he needs to create, just let him create it w/o any need of prereq is fine I think. |
| Geraturatu11-14-07, 10:47 PM | ok, I'll make that change now. Everyone, please do comment on the current abilities. I would like to have these balanced before moving on. There will be more. |
| Cartigan11-14-07, 10:49 PM | Alright, the short time since I've put this on it's already gotten out of control. -The Craft Magic Arms and Armor is since they're supposed to make a special type of weapon. Then let them gain it as a bonus feat at first level. The pre-requisite kills the class. You realize that you need a caster level of 5 to even qualify for Craft Magic Arms and Armor right? -The requirments are meant to be hard since this class has a lot going into it (once I get the abilities up) The class requires: 9 feats, caster level 5th, and BAB 8 The class is required to be at least level 11 because of the caster level and BAB alone. This is, at best, a 5 level prestige class. |
| Geraturatu11-14-07, 10:52 PM | That has been fixed. Edit: I already see a mistake, 1 second. Edit 2: There, any weapon (other than two handed) can be used with Weapon Finesse as long as they have Weapon Specialization in it. |
| runestar11-15-07, 05:54 AM | From what I can see, your 10th lv is essentially a dead lv. You might want to design some sort of capstone ability for it. Likewise, your abilities seem too front loaded. For me, I would just take the 1st 2 lvs of it and prc out ASAP, since law of diminishing marginal returns appears to set in afterwards. Perhaps consider making the efficacy of those abilities dependent on your blademaster lv? For example, supreme reflexes could grant a number of extra AoOs = blademaster lv, and this is improved to infinity at lv10. Also, unless I am missing something out, you can only get a +5 weapon max this way. Which all but forces the blademaster to get a +1 weapon with +5 worth of other weapon enchantments to max out (to get the equivalent of a +10 weapon). Is this your intent? Seems rather limiting, since a wizard can replicate a similar effect using greater magic weapon. |
| Geraturatu11-15-07, 07:42 PM | I wasn't exactly finished. Like I said, I wanted to see if his abilities were balanced before putting the others in. Also, the sword will get more enhancements as time goes (It will be called Improved Ascendants Blade). I haven't chosen where each of these abilities will be called. Also, I was wanting to ask if it'd be a good idea to make 10th level only reachable if it was your 20th class level (a.k.a. if there's no epic levels in the game, it'd be the last one). Would this be a good idea, since the 10th level ability is going to be majorly powerful. |
| Geraturatu11-15-07, 08:34 PM | Okay, I have added the Improved Ascendant Blade. I'm hoping that it is balanced (though the capstone ability will break it probably:(). |
| Cartigan11-15-07, 09:15 PM | Have you looked at Complete Warrior? It has a couple of weapon focussed classes that may help you. |
| Hanzo18711-16-07, 12:21 AM | Who cares? How many ninjas do you think are out there? Why don't you post in each of them saying that ninja is taken...? Dog O War have to do that a few times for me.;) I don't understand Hanzo187's comment about being unable to enter it before lv15. A fighter8/wiz1 can take the prc at 10th lv with practiced spellcaster. As vorpo said, I responded before the edit, but before that point, the BAB requirement was +15, you needed Craft Magic Arms and Armor, as well as Greater TWF, Great Cleave, among others. It made it impossible to take all 10 levels. However, I will say this class looks MUCH better than before. This PrC has more reasonable requirements, and it has some pretty cool abilities to boot. Well done.:) |
| Geraturatu11-17-07, 03:02 AM | Thanks for the compliment Hanzo187. I would edit in some more of the abilities right now, but if I don't get some sleep soon I'll implode. |
| Geraturatu11-21-07, 01:05 AM | Bloody schedule. I'll be putting in more abilities now. |
| Dog_O_War11-21-07, 12:04 PM | I would complain that this class is "uber-broken and for teh H4x0Rz", especially with a scimitar or falchion. But then I'm reminded of the old Deepwood sniper/Order of the Bow Initiates of 3.0. Master Critical: as good as this is, it only really shows with the increased multiplier; not that great for 14th level. Most people would rather have a keen weapon for the earlier levels, especially for things like the scimitar. The increased multiplier isn't all that great (unless in your games people "happen" to critical alot.) Supreme Cleave/ Supreme Reflexes: This can be abused rather quickly, but only by those with the knowledge to do so; When using a Giusarme (a weapon that qualifies for this class) You gain a 10foot reach, which means you threaten and can cleave an area greater than the average mook. You only need a DEX of 13, which means you can focus on strength for all those AoO trips you are now able to perform. This combo allows the class to become the new Gatling tripper. But with supreme cleave. Whirlwind attack: Not all that bad to give out this feat. But with the aforementioned gatling tripper above, this may be overpowering. Not really, until.... Supreme Whirlwind Attack: Well, this is quite the power increase. cleaving foes in a ten-foot swath. This however, is not overpowering (despite what my comments on whirlwind lead you to believe). Why, you ask? You don't get this one until 16th level. This is important because you are (usually) no longer fighting easily cleaveable monsters. Occationally you will get to use this ability, but it will be more of a novelty item; like having extra cash and playing ring-toss with a portable hole into a bag of holding that a bunch of bad guys are milling around. I don't mean to sound all harsh on you OP, but this class looks like it's trying to be three different things and delivering poorly on all sides. It looks like a kensai, but I'd rather be a kensai for it's better weapon abilities. It looks like the Orc Blademaster from said dragon magazine mentioned earlier, but I'd rather be that for the better whirlwind/attacks. Finally, it is trying to be a catch-all samurai, with the bonus to diplomacy and intimidate, and the required quickdraw feat. But it has no abilities to support them, or reasons to use them - as using indimidate requires a standard action, and you'd rather be attacking in combat than trying to bully your opponents into not fighting (or talking them down with diplomacy). This class needs a focus; What exactly are you trying to emulate? If we critique-ers know this, then we can help you better. |
| Geraturatu11-24-07, 11:03 PM | I'm trying to make a class thatt, when they have their ascendants blade, makes for an opponent that you don't want to engage in melee. It's supposed to be someone who will kill multiple enemies in melee really quickly. I got whirlwind attack since it hits lots of enemies, but then you make a good point about enemies being able to survive it. I'm not sure how else to put it since I've never been that good with words. |
| Geraturatu11-30-07, 08:00 AM | Wow, did I chase everyone away? |
| Dog_O_War11-30-07, 10:23 AM | No, it's just that it's hard to design this class differently than the kensai, because, well it's the kensai. |
